Unable to update SIMS 3

I have tried to update the game several times but it has not worked

I have bought an expansion pack however I am unable to install it because can't update the game using the game launcher or  the standalone base game update. Everytime I go into the game launcher it asks me whether I would like to update.

What do I do?
