1. Are you using any Custom Content or mods ?

2. If you are using mods, are you using any of the 'big ones' like Awesome Mod or Twallan’s mods

The Issue:
I sent two of my Sims to Uni, leaving a third at home. Everything was fine until they finished the term and went home. On arriving back at home, the house was frozen but only that house was frozen. The returning students never arrived back at the lot, the remaining Sim and the pets were stuck in place and I am unable to click any of them. Their portraits are just green boxes. I tried to reset the family with no luck. I tried to reload the game but but instead of leaving them stuck, the game changes their names and turns them into NPC Sims and I'm stuck with the panels of my sims who no longer exist. When I try to Edit town, the family is gone and the house is empty. At a loss on how to fix it. If I could get to Edit town before having to load the house I might be able to at least salvage the family but other wise it's looking like the whole thing is just going to get scrapped.
