Unknown error occurred

Okay, so I downloaded The Sims3 IP and played it for like 2 days no problem (with custom content), then randomly it crashed and since then I've been having quite the issues.

First, I got the message "unknown error occurred" and the launcher would close.

So... I installed EVERYTHING, then reinstalled it all, and updated it.

Then, Launcher will open and then just close, (I am going through Origin)

So, again, I installed it all again, thinking if I don't install the update maybe it'll work, after reinstalling it all. I get "unknown error occurred"--- (I have not reinstalled any custom content)

So, I go to the forums, and read different techniques, creating different user accounts on my Mac-- didn't work.

I tried the Finder>Library>Preferences> trash all com.sims stuff, to try and surpass the launcher phase, but now launcher just closes.

I am beyond frustrated. This shouldn't be this difficult... PLEASE HELPPPPP ME!

** Oh and when I try and update 1.63, it continues to tell me that theres an update, it won't actually update...

    Hi,

It sounds as though you've tried a couple of downloads and installations. I would recommend doing a clean uninstall and then start from fresh.

When you uninstall TS3 games on your Mac using the uninstaller, the game leaves behind stray files and isn't completely removed from your computer. These files may conflict with future installations. It is best to completely remove them. BluebellFlora's website provides a guide on how to do this:

    http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

After cleanly uninstalling, install the base game and patch it up to date. If you cannot update via the Launcher, download and apply the latest cumulative manual patch (called the superpatch) for Mac.

Check that your game works properly at this point. Then install any EPs and SPs that you own, in order of release date.

Since you are using Origin, remove that as well and redownload it. The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download

Additional advice on how to download games (thank you Tremayne for this tip):
When downloading from Origin, do NOT use the first install icon. Move your cursor over the game cover and click on the information (letter i) and then click on the install button from there.

For some reason, downloads from Origin frequently become corrupted. Using the i reduces the chance of your download being corrupted. If you have already been unfortunate and have a corrupted download, then it is important to remove all traces of this before trying again, by doing a thorough, clean uninstallation first.

    Good luck!
