UPDATED 8/20: Crash can occur when uninstalling Lucky Palms

**UPDATE 8/20/12**
A fix for the Clearstory Window that can not be CAS-styled will be shipping in the Seasons patch. You do not need to purchase Seasons to get this fix, you just need to download the patch (which you'll want anyway, it adds swimming to base game! ;-))

This fix will patch the catalog version of the window to include a preset so that it is properly CAS-styable.

**UPDATE 7/31/12**
If you purchase/download Lucky Palms after 12pm PST 7/31 you will not experience the uninstall crash. The issue that was leading to the crash has been resolved and the Lucky Palms world updated on The Sims 3 Store.

Because uninstalling Lucky Palms can lead to the crash we do not recommend you update Lucky Palms if you already have it installed.

If you do choose to update please back-up your saved games before doing so and be sure to remove ALL Lucky Palms objects (which will require individually selecting each asset in the Launcher for uninstall)
Uninstalling Lucky Palms will remove any saved games in that world, so it is very important that you back up your Saves if you choose to uninstall. Please see the bottom of this post ("To Fully Uninstall Lucky Palms and All related objects") for steps to uninstall Lucky Palms and all of it's objects.

In addition to fixing the crash the updated version of Lucky Palms contains a fix for the Clearstory Window that was not CAS-stylable. We are working on a way to bring this fix to the community that will not require an uninstall of Lucky Palms, so please be patient. Again, we do not recommend you uninstall Lucky Palms since it can lead to a crash.

**Original Message**
We have discovered an issue that can occur when uninstalling Lucky Palms. If you uninstall Lucky Palms an error can occur that causes the launcher to crash on start-up.

We are working on a fix for this issue. In the meantime, if you plan to uninstall Lucky Palms please remove the World and be sure to uninstall the Heavenly Bells Slanted Columns individually via the Launcher (see steps below)

If you have uninstalled Lucky Palms and you are encountering a crash please delete the DCCache folder found here: Electronic Arts\The Sims 3
This will remove all installed content, but it will resolve the crash and you will be able to reinstall content via the launcher.

If you have any questions please post here and we will do our best to help.

To uninstall Lucky Palms:
1. Got to the Installed Content tab in the Launcher.
2. Search for the Heavenly Bells Slanted Column and select these assets – there are 3 - individually in the Launcher.

3. Find and select the check box for the Lucky Palms world as seen below.

4. Select the Uninstall button and wait for the uninstall success confirmation dialogue.

This is one problem I won't have. LP is the best town ever. It has cured me of my Sims 2 addiction.

You won't be so happy if for some reason you need to re-install it.

So on top of finding all these things in a launcher that has no organization whatsoever, I have to first do the "dcdb0.ebc replacement trick" to even be able to uninstall LP & related objects because LP shows as NOT installed in my launcher right now.

    EA... !!!! *sigh* :X

Okay I Uninstalled Lucky Palms Today Without The Knowledge That I Would Crash Upon Deleting It . Now That The Game Launcher Wont Open , Is There Anything Possible That I Will Able To Do ? Or Is It Just Done...?

If you have uninstalled Lucky Palms and you are encountering a crash please delete the DCCache folder found here: Electronic Arts\The Sims 3
This will remove all installed content, but it will resolve the crash and you will be able to reinstall content via the launcher.
  • Thanks for posting this information before we all find out the hard way.

I have a problem with the launcher. It does not show everything I have downloaded. But the items are in the game! For example, mylauncher tells me I do not have LP downloaded, but when I get in the game, I have a great time in LP. I just went through all installed objects - no LP objects!! But they are in the game!! I want to avoid a crash, so any ideas?

Unfortunately if you have a lot of content it will not display in the launcher. If you wish to uninstall Lucky Palms your best course of action would be to delete the DCCache folder which will remove ALL downloaded content. You would then need to reinstall Store content again.
  • Sarah I dont understand why all items dont show in the launcher and many show as not being installed when they are.
What is the reason for this.
EA wants us to buy these items but its not very godo when they look like they are not installed and you cant find half of them as the
ingame helter skelter method of placed installed items is terrible.

    Unfortunate, indeed.

I was under the impression this was a problem with the launcher and was hoping it would be fixed at some point.

But this almost seems like it's known and intentional? Or at the very least, known and accepted by EA? Please say there's a plan to fix this.

If everything we purchased from the store was glitch free and never needed to be uninstalled, it wouldn't be such a headache. It's been hard enough just finding objects in the long list of installed items, now all the latest items/sets I've purchased (and I assume everything I purchase in the future) won't even BE on the list. *sigh*

I'm not a complainer and can live with the small stuff, and I could even live with this thinking EA was working on it. Are they working on it? :-)
  • I probably have a dumb question. I just got a new computer and will be putting The Sims 3 on there within the next couple of days. I own Lucky Palms and bought it before the world was fixed/updated. so once I get the sims 3 on my new computer, if I download Lucky Palms from my purchase history to my new computer, will the crash problem still be a problem or will it download the fixed version?
  • Ok. I deleted my DCCache folder. Now if I re download my Lucky Palms gold edition from my store purchase history will I encounter the same problems?? Please help me. I do not want to re install LP unless I know I will not have any problems. Thank you very much.
