[ARCHIVED] [CD] [HR] Pets/Horses are black

- Sims 4 on my PC

I made some pets with the paint mode, now when I try to access them, they’re completely black. The only way to get color is to go back into paint mode. But it just resets the animal to their default color. I’ve looked on here and they’ve said they patched this, but I am still having this issue. 

Similar problem. My issue only affects a certain save I play. All of the pets are pitch black and I have to paint them to "fix" the problem. I found out this solution through google. I do not have the current July 26th patch, my game is updated to the previous werewolf June 15th update. It is upsetting I have to fix all the pets in that save, at least it isn't a universal game problem AS OF YET 

I am having this problem, too. 
All dogs are pitch black in game. I tried to adopt a dog and they were all pitch black, but when i entered CAS they all looked okay, just their clothes were pitch black, but in live mode they look pitch black. I tried deleting the dogs, creating other dogs, nothing works!! I'm going crazyyy

It just happened to me as well, right after the latest patch end of July, the one who made everyone get old and die, I didn't mind dying that much but....losing my art, what will I leave behind then lol???? After I restarted the game after the patch, all my paintings and pics went blank and black. Sigh, not funny...I lost everything I created, plus my pets I created too are now all black. Just shadows of their former selves, roaming around like, hmmm, well like black shadows. Painting is what I love doing a lot so it really ruins it for me, so many hours, days weeks of labour for nothing, all art destroyed. A nation without art is a nation without soul and culture lol, sucks. No one knows what causes it? WIll it be fixed? Until then I shall look at the bland artless world (pun intended) with an empty soul, arg. ☹️ ps. Never used mods. ps4

I've been having this problem when placing pets/families with pets, either in "create a sim" or in a lot, from the library and they become pitch black.

I have tried painting the pet and it "solves" the problem, but erases any custom texture/painting and reverts it to the default one before all the customization.

I have also tried to enter a world and create a new family to move in and add the pet form library then, instead of starting a new game from the menu and it seems to work, even though it is a many steps process compared to just choosing "new game" from the menu.

The pets I have created are mostly from 2020 and up, when I tried placing a pet I had shared to the gallery in 2019 it did not show this issue however.

I have had no problem with pet profiles being blacked out when saved in the library as some other people experienced.

Is there a solution to this problem? Sometimes if I insist long enough it seems to solve itself, only to happen again the next time I open the game.

Edit: I have just now tried going back to the main menu, selected "new game" to test it out and the pet placed from the library came out pitch black. Ok, expected.
Went back to a world, selected "create new family" to try again, and the issue followed, the pet came out pitch black. I am really upset with this issue.

I found a quick solution to this when it happened to me today. I have mods installed and just got werewolves. I made a couple of cute cats and uploaded them to my library then when I took them out of the gallery later the cats I made were all black and only removing the custom colouring reverted them to having texture.  Super frustrated I came here but got nothing so what I did was go to my library in origin and selected "repair" for the sims 4. When I went back into my game and added the same family in my library to cas they no longer were black and had all their cool colouring visible. Hope this helps!

TL;DR - Select repair on the sims 4 game in your origin library 🙂

I'm having this issue as well, not just in CAS, but also in live mode. I create my real life pets, so I used paint mode. I saved the household to my library then later reloaded in CAS got black pets, loaded in live mode, black pets. Using paint mode on them simply resets them to default colourings. I'm glad I didn't spend ages on this, because it would have been a waste of time.

My game is currently unmodded, I have all packs except Batuu and Werewolves; none of the kits. For me this already happened before the last patch (the werewolves one), with a household I made a year and half ago.

Odd thing is, I saved this household last week, while painted on, then reloaded it in CAS today, and the pets looked as they should. I've reloaded them after saving them to my library again, and now they're black. Could saving them a second time be the thing that triggers this?

What happens when the bug occurs? The pets I download from gallery are black, then when I go to paint mode they completely reset to before they were painted.....same bug that was occurring back in 2017. Its back now with werewolves....

I'm also having this problem. Here's a link to a video of it happening as well as a picture of what the dog was supposed to look like vs what it actually looks like. I'm not sure how to post the family I downloaded, but my gallery ID is Ghostly_Gorl and the family is named "Stout."
