    We have fixed an issue where Sims could not use stairs when Simmers deleted the floor of a fence block that was built around the stairs in the upper landing. It sounds like a mouthful, doesn’t it?

    Fixed in Patch 1.76.81/ 1.4.

    If you're still experiencing this issue, please create a new thread.

    If you still have issues, please make sure to post pictures of your setup (or name the house if it's a premade) in a new thread.

    It's also helpful if you upload the house to the gallery.

@Maysbat If there isn't a better one currently and is kinda working it might still be better to have it highlighted somehow

I mean it's still a bug going on but no one will find workarounds if they're not marked as solution (doesn't make the thread not a bug)

Maybe you could add it as possible solution that's kinda working to your OP though.

Like c/p the solution and link/give credit to the user posting it. Maybe there's other posts that could be highlighted liek that

As it's a build issue, I'm personally no use for this.

@crinrictI decided to create a list of all of workarounds for this issue to higlight them bacause in this way all of them will be in one spot:

#1 Delete fence in one spot. Then delete gray tiles that show up. Then add fence again. Note: this fix causing delating ceiling because open space is no longer a room but your sims will be able to use stairs so put on top of it another room to create ceiling.

#2 Add floor on open space. The most simple solutions. Note: gray tiles will be visible but your sims can use stairs.

#3 Add ladder next to the stairs. Note: toddlers, cats and dogs won't use it.

#4 Enable testingcheats true and teleport your sims when you need to. Note: you will have to teleport then in both ways so it might be annoying.

#5 Delate fence in one spot and leave it that way. Note: it won't look safety but sims cannot fall down (in this cause).

#6 Add fence (from Strangerville, Get Famous or Spa Day - they're the lowest) around open space and then delate floor. Note: fence will be visible but sims will be able to use stairs.

Thank you @DeanXeL for it. To be honest I stopped bulding house with openstaircaise and now I can make them again. 🙂

    @Maysbat You asked if there were any other workarounds... I have added a re-creating the area option and video demonstration for several of the lots mentioned in the thread. It fixed the issue in each of the open stairway areas that I tested.

      @SheriGR I don't wanna be mean but all of your videos is the same method and it's kind of workourand #1 but just with few changes. In your method from what I saw you change fence on wall and then basically doing the same thing and it's just more work to do in my opinion. So I'm gonna stick to #1 which acually was first workaround for this issue created by JuliaChang93.

    I have this same issue! I have tried to do that list of workaround and although my sims can now use the ladder to get up and down, they still cannot use the stairs, basically rendering them useless.

    Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I uploaded a video and the lot is available on the gallery under "Stairs are Not Working"
    What happens when the bug occurs? My sim is unable to use the stairs.
    What do you expect to see? MY sim should be able to use stairs with or without the use of a fence and deleted flooring.
    Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
    Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
    Please describe the patch or change you made. This issue started occurring after the recent update (platforms)

    My sim can't use the stairs. I usually use a fence to create a room above the stairs so that I can delete the flooring that shows up above a U shaped staircase. With the use of the fence and deleted flooring, my sim was UNABLE to go up the stairs. My poor doggo needs a bath badly. So I then deleted the fencing but had the one square of flooring above the staircase (which is irks My sim is unable to go up the stairs. So I then deleted the fencing but had the one square of flooring above the staircase (which is irksome) and then my sim was able to use the stairs. :/gdljaslaudgfbome) and then my sim was able to use the stairs. :/ I've attached a video of this issue and uploaded the lot to the gallery.

      After this last patch, my game is glitching and can not use the staircase to go to the second floor. Can you tell me ho to fix this. I am on Facebook messenger Lois Thomas

        I have also starting having this issue recently, deleting and replacing the railing fixes it... but deleting the railing also sends all the furniture within a certain distance of the stairs into my storage for some reason

    What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Dine out, city living, get famous, get together, seasons, more that I can’t remember
    Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to walk up stairs.
    What happens when the bug occurs? Sim gets the “can’t reach that” moodlet and waves when trying to go up stairs in restaurant.
    What do you expect to see? My sims able to use the stairs in the restaurant so they can use the restroom.
    Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console - never used.
    Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

    Using the standard restaurant that comes with Dine out, my sims can’t go up the stairs.

    @Maysbat  Thank you so very much for the consolidated list of workarounds for this issue.  I finally saw it in a lovely build in deligracy's Newcrest save file and since I am seriously inept at building, I genuinely had no idea as to where to even begin to fix access to the second floor.  Until I found your report and workaround list I was afraid that I was just going to have to bulldoze the lot and find another house to download and use.  Your #5 to the rescue 🙂

    Of course, thanks to @crinrict as well for managing a list of issues!

    I'm using the 6th workaround with placing a fence around the staircase opening before deleting the floor. It doesn't look so good with the fence visible so I found this invisible fence, which is actually a gate:

    Placing it around the fence does make the fence go invisible. There do appear some floating shadows from the object, but at least it looks better than with a fully visible fence.

    I do wish this would get fixed though.

      Occurs to me that perhaps, instead of using a fence, you could use spandrels. It would accomplish the same goal of separating the manually deleted floor from the auto-invisible floor, and you could do some interesting things with it as well.

    I had to build walls around the stairs, meaning, a wall on each side for them to work. I deleted all railings and fences.

    None of these are actual workarounds and none of them actually solve the problem that the person posted about!
