Possible Bug: Adults can't read to children

The option for adults to read to children will not appear in any form. Iv'e completed Whiz Kid and the family aspirations many times so I do know how this is supposed to work but the option won't even show up. It doesn't seem to matter if I click on the bookshelf or on a children's book that's been placed in the world.

This is a new save game so I'll list the facts that may somehow be related to the issue.

No Mods or CC of any kind.

One active household on this save file, but the house is merged. Active house is Maxis BFF merged by marriage with a player created household. Not sure if in the process of merging the book-objects themselves may have become glitched. I haven't yet attempted to buy a new bookshelf and see if it works.

The issue seems to affect all adults in this particular household. There are several bookshelves and attempting to click on a different one doesn't work.Ive also attempted the several methods of getting adults to read a children's book and no matter which one I try the option to read to child does't appear. Ive also done enough testing that it doesn't seem to be realated to low needs or relationships.

Some of the Household members are writers and have written children's books. I don't think this would glitch the existing books but stranger things have happened.

The child in question has previously completed the creativity aspiration. I've tended to complete more than one aspiration on child Sims in the past. I often start with Wiz Kid becuase it unlocks some computer interactions that make the other ones go much more quickly, but started with creativity one in this case and didn't switch out until I completed it.

I'm experiencing some known bugs in this save file, and have used cheat codes to get past some stuck tiers of aspirations, but no other cheat codes. I turn testing cheats back off when I'm done. Not sure if a seemingly unrelated cheat might effects a completely different issue but thought it was worth mentioning.

I'm going to experiment with a few things to see if I can find any work arounds. If replacing the bookshelf doesn't work I'll probably cheat past this tier of the Aspiration. I also plan to start a new household to see if this is an anomally or if the issue is more widespread. I've never had this particualr issue before. I'm also likely to move the household to a new lot eventually, so Ill experiement to see if the issue persists beyond the move. I might also try jumping into one of my earlier save files to see if the issue is also occuring there. This is the first time i've ver ahd a problem with this aspiration.
