I have the same issue since the new 'For rent' pack. This only happens when i try to build a residential rental lot with more than 9 units. Whenever i do this i get loads of orange and green error exclamation marks above random lots in random worlds (see picture). When i scale the residential rental lot back to 9 units in the lot these errors on random lots/worlds go away? This must be a bug as i've removed all my mods and the issue is still there.
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
@FoxnMoonIt's not mod related i've gone through all my mods (i.e removing them) and i have over 100 of them. Try reducing the number of units to 8 or less per residential rental and see if that fixes the issue.
Edit: im not sure my suggestion of 8 or less units is true anymore. Because i tried to do another residential rental with 7 units in 1 lot and got the same issues.

This same error is happening to my daughter's game, every time she builds a rental lot the game corrupts other lots from other worlds, it doesn't matter what size the rental lot is, it always corrupts something. This is very unfair because I bought the game for my daughter and she has not been able to enjoy the new expansion pack at all.
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
It looks like it is happening in similar worlds as i have the same issue with the worlds in your screenshots
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Also i think the issue is the game is limiting the amount of rentals you can have despite the cheats.
I counted that i have 21 rental units, across 4 lots, across 3 worlds. Anything more than this and i get the errors popping up on random lots. When i increase it to 22 rental units i get 2 errors in Willow Creek, and anything more than 22 i get loads of errors in Willow Creek and potentially other worlds.

I don't think that's it, I was searching on Google and there is something interesting in the developers' notes that I suppose has to do with the error.
Attached image.
I think that after the expansion the game was imposed a limit on residential lots per saved game. Which if so, I see it as very poor, because counting all the available worlds that we have to build, the developers are forcing you to not be able to have residences in all the available lots on each map, since if you count there are more than 99 lots available to build in the game, and if you remove some lots such as parks, bars, pubs, etc., you still have much more than 99 available.
So of course the multifamily lots are several lots in one, so I suppose that When you exceed the limit, the game corrupts batches created from other maps so as not to exceed your limit. Maybe this is what is hurting everyone, since I have seen gameplays of several YouTubers who also have this error in their games.
Either the developers eliminate that figure or increase it to a greater amount as they have for the limit of active families or some MOD creator that allows that figure to be varied or increased.
These are my assumptions about this.

Just been giving this some more thought and don't think that's the issue as TwistedMexi has a mod to increase the unit limit to 250 units. I've tried using this mod and still have the same issue.

I'm running out of ideas, even so I'm doing tests with my daughter's saved game because I can't find a cause for this error, since it's not something new, this has been happening for a long time, only now with the release of the expansion It has increased much more, it even happened to James Turner in the middle of a game on Twitch, and the same to other YouTubers, this is something common and EA has moved on from this along with other problems that have been going on for years.
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Have you tried repairing the game? If so, did it help at all?
- sabodreyar2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
If I did it and nothing, the luck is that I have created backups of all the games on the PC, both mine and my daughter's, to avoid all these things. For now, I suppose you have to continue dragging the error as far as you can, because something tells me that at a certain point the game will end up prohibiting you from accessing all those broken lots. I also told my daughter to play but without building any new multi-family lots, it's unfortunate but it's the only thing I can think of or to start a new game from scratch but she doesn't want to leave her old game. So let's wait and see if EA decides to solve this once and for all.
Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? Français
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? Lastest
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I don't know
What happens when the bug occurs? It seem to happen when the number of units reach the limit.
What do you expect to see? My lots not corrupted
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. For Rent DLC
Number of lots get corrupted with the "Non Residential", Orange Exclamation signs over lots and Houses disappeared. It seem to happen when the number of units reach the limit. It begun with the For Rent DLC. I tried to reinstall, repair, with or without mods. I tried everything the only solution was to backup an old save. Anyway the bug come back.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@FoxnMoon I merged your post with an older thread, mostly cause everyone else has been posting in here for rental lots as well.
Seems rental lots may have escalated the issue (or mods are corrupting saves for good unless you tried a new saves that never had mods and also have the issue) - nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
I've tried running with no mods and I've also repaired the game but still have the same issue. Anything above 21+ units in my save and i get random lot errors popping up all over the place. As soon as i reduce the number of units the lot errors disappear.
How do we get this on a bugs report for EA devs?
- sabodreyar2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
Excellent question, why am I wondering the same thing?
It is impossible to enjoy the game that way, since you are at risk of losing the game and the buildings. I just don't understand why they release content with that amount of errors, it's almost an offense.
The quality team does not review these products before going on the market, it seems like they are playing with people's money. It is understandable that there are some errors, but it is not the first nor the last that they release game content that is super broken in all aspects making it unplayable.

I have before and after versions of a single save file with this bug to share. Here is the version of the save file before the bug:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1blp6Lb7bT4UgzPn-Yz-XTg80FzDnUYJa/view?usp=drive_link
. . . and the version after the bug:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z_br4BTEbRE-ZzBQWhIvVsqMDxjIkNmw/view?usp=drive_link
Unfortunately, I did a very great deal of converting formerly-fake apartment buildings to actual rental residential lots before I discovered the bug, because it affected Willow Creek and I was going through all the worlds in order, so I did not return to the Willow Creek map screen and discover the bug until I had more than 80+ total units in my save file. Consequently, I couldn't say for sure when the bug occurred or how many units in total I had when the corruption started. But regardless, if 100 units is the per-save-file cap (and I have respected that; I have not been using any mods that remove that limit), then we ought to be able to have 100 units without the save file corrupting. I hope this before-and-after comparison can help the devs find and fix the cause of this bug.

I suspect this is going to start becoming more visible as a problem for other players. I also hope the devs resolve the issue asap as i can see the potential with this expansion pack for players who like to build townhouses and apartments.

I'm doing more testing and noticing a few things about my save. FYI...my testing is being done on a save that has no active 'orange or green' lot errors in any of the worlds.
1. Play a household in live mode (i.e play as a household in a normal residential lot)
2. Whilst playing the household enter buy/build mode
3. Change the lot type to Residential Rental and start creating the units you want whilst in that current buy/build mode (or replace the lot with a pre-made residential rental lot from your library)
4. The game will make the current household the property owner and will default them to take residency of the first residential unit (when you go back to manage world screen you will see this. You can evict them if you want the unit empty etc).
5. When you exit back to world map view do a quick check across all your worlds to see which random lots have been affected with Orange or Green lot errors
6. Go back to your household in live mode
7. Visit one of the affected lots and see if the lot operates as normal (i.e it loads up as a bar if you had it set as that before)
8. If one of the affected lots is residential, check that you can play as that household without any issues. Also check that you can visit that lot with a different household.
9. You should be able to change any of the affected lots to 'residential rental' (note this is only if you are annoyed with seeing the orange and green lot errors and you are happy to turn a residential lot into a residential rental) and this will remove the orange and green lot error for that affected lot. However changing the lot type to anything else does not remove the orange or green lot error. E.g If you tried to change the affected lot back to a bar it will still show up with orange or green lot error when in world view on the map.
10. Willow Creek seems to be most affected world in my save...in fact its the only world affected world that i've noticed so far when following the above process (i.e changing a lot to residential rental from live mode when playing as a household).
I'm still testing the game (i.e adding more rental units, currently have 30 combined in the my save) and by no means is this a fix of any kind but thought i would share my testing results so far..

In the case of my daughter's saved game, the first world that is affected is Magnolia Promenade and all the lots she has there are businesses, then it happens to Oasis Springs and then to Willow Creek and continues to Windenburg.
Last night I was doing tests with the saved game and I also noticed what you mentioned, I even realize that at least in my daughter's game this error behaves in an order, it does not do it randomly but rather follows an order specifically breaking lots, first businesses in Magnolia then affecting a specific area in Oasis where there are houses and community lots and so on continuously.
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Yea i think you might be right with the behaviour happening in order. I think with mine its Willow Creek first.
After creating 40+ units across my entire save (max of 18 units on 1 residential rental lot) i checked my world map and there is loads of orange and green lot errors all over the place. Its very random but i've attached some screenshots of the worlds in question...
- Willow Creek (entire world affected)
- Magnolia Promenade (entire world affected)
- San Myshuno - (1 lot affected)
- Sulani (entire world affected)
- Glimmerbrook (entire world affected)
- Evergeen Harbour (entire world affected)
- Tartosa (entire world affected)
You all have done some very impressive testing here <3 I hope they fix it soon!
@sabodreyar fyi the 99 unit limit is for residential rental units, not for residential lots or other lot types-- you can build on every lot in every world in the game, you just can't make them all residential rentals.
@nathaneous1 You mentioned a max of 18 units per lot, I assume you are using the cheat to increase the usual number of units allowed per lot?
Other people with this issue, are you using the cheat or no?

The truth is that this bug is going to end up driving my wife, my daughter and I crazy, especially my daughter who wants to play and I won't let her because I'm constantly testing her game.
The worst thing is that it is not something new, but rather it is something that has been going on for years, only that the release of the new expansion has further unpreserved this error along with others, and it is happening to many players, including youtubers in the middle of streaming.
- sabodreyar2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
@mightyspritesimsWithout the cheat, the error still happens, this happened to James Turner in a game on twitch and I have seen other cases of other youtubers who were not using cheats, one of them was even starting a game from scratch for a challenge and just downloading from the gallery 4 rental lots and locating them when leaving the map manager, several lots in Willow Creek and Magnolia had been broken. The curious thing about the case is that it does not happen to all players, sometimes it is random or not. I could not tell.
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Yes using the bb.increaserentalunitcap on cheat :-)
- sabodreyar2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
Another thing that I noticed last night is that the broken lots when you go to the map manager, which you select to see the details of the lot, it loses the category where it says (type of lot), that the unaffected lots do not have this problem, it is Like the bug disappears the lot completely from the game, even when you access it (if it lets you do so) the type of lot is still empty in the description in the map view.
