Re: [ARCHIVED] Sims Icons staying grey after coming back from work

It DOES seem that this issue is back (although I never experienced it the first time around). I thought it was perhaps an issue with one specific household, but it's not. It seems to happen mainly to my teens coming home from either work or school. They physically arrive home, but their icon is still grayed out as if they're still at school/work. And they don't seem to follow direction in this state (I know what they say about being physically present but being mentally elsewhere, but that's not so fun in the Sims!).

It is possible to have them leave work or school early to "fix" the problem (although it doesn't work for me until after I've either reloaded the game, or re-entered the lot from manage world), but not without consequences. If you wait too long to do it, their needs drop drastically. AND you also wind up with a performance loss as the game thinks the sim is quitting early when really they've put in overtime. My one teen is now an F student because of this repeated problem, and he's not doing so hot in his job, either!

Hope this gets fixed in a patch ASAP!!!

Will do! I had those teens quit their jobs and it hasn't happened since, but I'll reemploy them and see if I can get it to happen again. If I do, I'll post it for you and share the link here!

Hey, I'm good to go to share the DxDiag and a save where this is happening, but you'll have to refresh my memory on how to do it. FYI, this time around, my teen (who has school and a job) got stuck like this when she decided to play hooky. Instead of going to the lot with her friend to play hooky, she instead has been sent home, but her icon looks like she's still at school. I see you've attached instructions on how/where to upload a file, unfortunately, I don't know how to get/create/find that file to upload! Let me know and I'll get it to you asap!

FYI, I'm on a Macbook Pro, so I'll also need a little help figuring out how to create/find a DxDiag file on a mac. I haven't created one of those (or uploaded an bugged saved file) for eons, since I was playing Sims 1 on a PC!

Hi @ceb6973, your save files can be found by going into Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 4 -> saves. If you sort the folder by Date Modified, then the most recently modified *.save file will be the last save you played.

For your DxDiag, that's actually called System Information on Apple. You can go to Apple menu -> About This Mac --> System Report and then choose File -> Save to save a copy. Here's more info: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203001

Excellent, now let's see if I got the right stuff... Hmm, it won't let me attach either in the forums as it says they are "unsupported extensions." So I'll get them to you in one of the other ways you provided!

Okay, I figured out OneDrive -- Yay! Here's the link!https://1drv.ms/f/s!Aub2vVg_AqSEb6HbnnKGl62sdWs My User name CEB6973 is in the file name of the MacSystemReport, but I didn't change the name of the save to include it. Let me know if I need to. My OneDrive account name is Christine Bartsch, in case you need that. And the family with the issue (not sure if you need that, but just in case!) is last name Fowler, and they live in a lot I called The Shack that's in Oasis Springs, in the Bedrock Straight neighborhood (last house on the left, south side of the road).

Hopefully this will help you figure out the issue. Let me know if there's any other way I can help (Or if I didn't do something correctly, which is quite possible!)

You did all that correctly and I was able to get both your system report and your save. Now we'll try and find a machine like yours, and see if we can't narrow this down once and for all. Thank you so much for all the help! 🙂

@ceb6973 I'm actually not seeing the Fowler household anywhere in this save, just the Frink and Skidmore families in Oasis Springs. This might not be the correct save file? If you select Load Game from within the game, and hover over the folder icon of the affected save file, it should tell you the exact file name of that particular save. Like in this screenshot:

So sorry about that! Here's a new link with the correct save: https://1drv.ms/f/s!Aub2vVg_AqSEcuGQ2alQNfYutXI

It took me forever to figure out what was going on. It seems I have TWO Sims 4 folders and I took the most recent save from the old one. Not sure how this happened, but it appears when I installed the game back in 2015 it created a folder called The Sims 4 directly in my downloads folder, instead of creating an Electronic Arts Folder first and creating The Sims 4 folder in that. I checked, and all the saved files in that saves folder are dated back to 2015.

Then, in 2016 I must have reinstalled or something because then it created the Electronic Arts folder and put both my Sims Medieval and The Sims 4 in that. That folder is where my newest saves are and I got the correct one from there.

Okay, this may sound like TMI, but I do have a question that makes it relevant, I promise! I'm wondering since there's apparently two separate The Sims 4 folders containing all the game files, am I safe in deleting old one from 2015 without it messing up the game? (I did a quick scan, both seem to have all of the same program files). Since they do take up quite a bit of room, I'd like to delete the one if I can. Don't worry if you recommend it and I run into problems, thanks to this little issue I'm secure in knowing I have my latest save safe in OneDrive!

I'm mainly just double checking with you for reassurance as I'm probably gonna give it a go.

Thanks again for all your help! (You guys have made seeking help from EA SOOOOO much easier/more pleasant than it used to be back in Sims 1 and Sims 2 days!)
