Re: [FIXED] Stacked items in inventory cause game crash

Same! I just updated for the last 2 patches (Feb. 27th & 28th, 2024) and downloaded the Crystal Creations kit & now when I take the crystal grid for charging crystals & the few pieces of jewellery my Sim has created out of their inventory within about 30 seconds my game just closed out completely, no saving, nothing. I tried this about 3 times, re-starting the game each time, & every time I opened my Sim's inventory and tried to move anything out to use it, the game just closed out suddenly.

I play on PC, with all packs and kits & DO NOT use mods/cc.

This NEEDS to be fixed ASAP! It's making it impossible to play the game & impossible to play the new pack that just dropped.

Happens to me too! The game is unplayable. It didn’t do this before the stupid update on the 27/2! 
I don’t use mods/ cc/ cheats. I play on the Xbox although I’ve given up until it’s fixed

It was stacked items that did it, I haven’t tried on single items.

As others are mentioning it, I didn’t have any wands, brooms, or lightsabers in the inventory, just Dream Home Decorator modular furniture and lumps of coal (lol).

I did some self-testing and while my game only crashed once when I bought some extra wands to create a stack, I get an UI Exception on every single stack in either the household inventory & inventory.

I guess the crashing might be random.

I would avoid stacks in inventories if possible

If you can't remove stuff without crashing (brooms, wands seem to be the objects that cause crashing the most), use the methods described here to remove them from your inventory: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2019/01/objects-get-stuck-in-inventory/

@Rubytitania I'm not getting crashes with those. Could you post pics o the items you have issues with ?

@Seafood_Holic Do you also have brooms in your inventory or is it just the crystal stuff ?

This behaviour is strange imo and may be related to the problem. The last UI panel opened in game is the same window opened on the next load, from ANY save, and even if the previous game WAS NOT saved. What that means is that UI state is being saved (globally) even when there is no save by the user. I suspect that this, along with having a new item indicator in the inventory, is related to the crashes.

Try opening a game, changing the UI item that is currently open, eg. open the needs panel, close the game without saving. Every save file opened after that will now load with the needs panel open.

When a game with an open inventory is exited (saved or not), the next time any save loads, the inventory is also open.

Also, it is not a particular item in the inventory, nor is it limited to stacks, or magic items (my sim isn't a spellcaster).

Mine does the exact same thing. No mods, only packs are the free ones. No cheats. Super frustrating. 

Need some testers for the following steps.

1. Load your save game

2. If the inventory is showing open, close it

3. Do some stuff with your Sim. Travelling, switching to build/buy mode, doing some interactions. Not sure how much is necessary.

4. Open the inventory and drag it to the max size so that you see all items (if possible or as much as you can)

5. Click on the stacks (anything that has those stack icons) and try to move all but one item to your home. You can only have one item

6. Save your game (best under a new name or create a backup beforehand)

I play on the Xbox and mine happens on stacks and single items. I don’t have custom content or have MODS. It’s so frustrating.

Sure. I just went through the steps 3 times. On PC. Win 11. Once at step 5, crashed upon clicking on the stack of brooms. A scratch folder was generated in my saves after crashing. I restarted and closed the game manually, the scratch folder went away. 

With the scratch folder gone. Tried the steps once more and was able to open the stack and place the items on the lot and complete a new save.

Almost same for me. I closed game manually but my scratch folder didn't go away so I manually deleted it and was able to complete all steps and played for a while after with no crash. My spellcaster sim now has mops and wands all over her house though lol

I was finally able to move the two wands out of my sims personal inventory after doing a variety of things as suggested by @crinrict , i.e. doing various interactions, including traveling to another lot and going into build mode, though it didn't work on the first couple of attempts). I did check to see if my scratch file was in my saves folder and it was there at soon as I opened my game (I used alt tab to go look). What I noticed is that if the game closes normally, i.e. without crashing, the scratch file usually disappears from the save folder when you close the game. It seems like it stays in the save folder if the game crashes. I'm on Windows 10, still playing with my mods folder out, game version PC. 1.105.332.1020, all packs except the Modern Menswear Kit.

Glad to see someone else say this is happening on household inventory for them too, because most reports I've seen of it seem to be personal inventory. I've not seen that yet but for me, if I have multiple of the same item in my household inventory in B/B mode, clicking on them makes the game crash.

Yup, this is happening in my household inventory too. 

This has been happening to me too...was only able to play Thursday when the dlc originally dropped; need this fixed asap for streaming.

My game keeps crashing. Last two times I clicked on broom in my sim inventory, and before that my sim opened simmi capsule. It's impossible to play. I am reading about workaround rn. But, Simmi capsule crashing is new, and I haven't seen it mentioned.  

I read that recycling the bugged items can get rid of them without issue. I recycled my spellcaster's wands and brooms without my game crashing so that can be a bandaid to get rid of it.

Cannot access anything in my household inventory without being faced with a black screen and thrown back to my Xbox Home Screen. 

Weeding the garden and my sim gets stuck on the same plant.

sims just stand there and do nothing although you command them to shower or use the toilet. 

putting a 30-50% sale on the packs will not make up for the amount of bugs and glitches that are currently in the game. 

I don’t have custom content or mods, I hardly have any of the packs but it’s becoming impossible to play the sims 4.

I got rid of all stacked items, deleted cache, etc, repaired my game and it crashed two minutes in game again. My sim inventory is empty, lot inventory also. So something else causes crashing too.
