right after i left for work this morning i remembered something. The lights are wall items, that means you wouldn't need a room. A wall is all you need to keep them raised. Maybe the lamp that actually lit up the area was placed outside the room by accident?
@crysk , I may have done that. When I have a little time, I plan to experiment with just a wall in the basement and not a whole room and see if that makes a difference.
Edit: I tried placing the light on a single wall panel in the basement and then moo'ing it up onto the fence. It worked like a charm! The light had the right color on the fence and reflected its light at night. The problem seems have been in putting the wall light inside a room instead of just on a wall. Thanks for the suggestion, @crysk !
I also discovered something interesting about lights on fences. I started with a half wall (with move objects on), placed wall lights along it, then used the replace fencing tool to change it to a fence. The wall lights stayed in place on the fence. I saved the lot and then placed the save lot onto a new lot. The lights were still in place on the fence, and I had not needed to create walls in the basement. I wonder if anyone else has tried to place lights on fences this way.
