The Lake
Interlude
Some lakes behave and lie still in the woods.
Some lakes diminish in time.
Some lakes behave and lie still in the wound.
Some lakes diminish in time.
But some lakes are greedy and learn to grow mouths.
Spilling over.
Bleeding on the flowers and the grass
and the weeds and the reeds.
Some lakes are greedy and learn to grow teeth,
gathering rocks into a great army ready for war.
Some lakes open wide,
devouring time
spilling and growing and stretching and learning
until a river is born.
And all the roads become muddy.
All the roads become muddled and torn.
