Anyone knows of a working cinema lot?

Has anyone built one? I've downloaded some but when the TVs are sized up they do not work so the cinema is pointless. I wonder if anyone has built one, cinema, that works.

  • I've been meaning to build an olde timey theatre lot and your post motivated to dig into it. So far, I've been unable to get Sims to use any seats beyond the first three rows to watch the screen. As far as I can tell, you need to make sure the screen is in the same room as the Sims that are viewing, even an invisible wall will block viewing. Even in the same room there seems to be a range limit for viewing. I've put the prototype in my gallery (still debugging and tweeking). I plan on making trying several versions (cafe, lounge, park) to see which works best. Here's some screenshots.

  • If you have the Movie Stuff pack those screens work very well for movie theater builds. Sims will sometimes just watch regular TV instead of movies but what can you I guess lol.

I ran some quick tests. When I commanded test subject Eliananana Sillyname to watch teevee she moved to the second seat and happily watched her idiot box.

In this image I commanded her to move to the third seat. She did and continued watching. But she will not move to the next seat if commanded and will remain in the third seat. Maybe she is near sighted.

If I remove the chairs, she will only watch the idiot box within range of her nearsightedness.

In this shot, you see Eliananana happily enjoying her movie from a clearly different room separated by a half-wall. So much for my theory about the screen being in a different room. If you close up the wall she will do "shruggy footprint crosshatch" and can't watch it. I thought a problem I had in my build with viewing was caused by being in a different room but I couldn't duplicate my results.

In this image I'm able to duplicate my results. I created a split level by removing the floor in the seating level, while using the foundation tool to raise the floor of the other room. This created a crisis for Ms Sillyname and she "footsteps crosshatched" in confusion.

So it seems like there are two conditions that stop Sims from viewing. Range and different levels.

If you post a screenshot of your room where you have a problem we might be able to figure out why it's not working for you.

  • I made "Del Sol Luxe Theater" using screens from Movie Stuff. They are huge.

  • @CaptainStumpy how did you get the blown up tv to work? The one I downloaded didn't work.
  • @3KNPen My problem is that it looks like the TVs that are sized up don't work.
  • It should work sized up. Take a screenshot of the room you are trying to make work and post it. Are you getting a "footstep question mark shrug thought balloon" when you command them to watch? The first thing I would try is make sure the wall the tv is on is in the same room as the Sims that are supposed to watch it. Do this by clicking on the room wall and carefully making sure the tv is inside the room. If you pick up the room and the tv moves with it, it is in the same room. The next thing is the Sims have to be in range to watch it. place chairs just in front of the tv in a line and make a test Sim sit in each chair to see if they can view it.
  • @CaptainStumpy I'll check it out when I go back into my game. It'll be a while cause I need to update my sim blog first. I have over 400 pics to edit.
