Bake Off, Chili/Ribs/Fish Bake Off and Potlucks

If you would like to train your sims cooking or baking, you need to get going and cook a lot. Sometimes it gets expensive and it seems like food is wasted, only to become a lot of leftovers that spoil.

When I trained some of my sims baking I invited everyone to a community lot and then started some sims baking like crazy. After everyone danced and had fun, they were hungry and so I had everyone take a plate of food together. Also, sometimes If I have too much food in the fridge I just take it to a community lot, form a group with some sims and just let them pig out. So it is sort of like a potluck.

I was thinking about a new activity. You start the event by calling some sims you know. You invite them to participate by picking some to compete, some to judge and some to just stop by and have a free meal. You can also charge for the event an entry fee, but only if you are a high enough level and competing with other sims with high cooking skills. So you can have ameteur and professional cook offs.

Once the event starts, you have a timed event where you begin cooking or baking or grilling. You need more ingredients because you are making lots of plates of food, so make sure you bring everything before hand. Then you plate up your food to present it to the judges. You can smooze with the judges, talking up how great your food tastes and how prettily it is plated. Then you can offer samples to other sims who can give you a prize for the public in general, how they thought of your food vs the judges. The crowd favorite might differ. You also get more popular if you smooze with the crowd too. You could have some sims attracted by the smell of what you are cooking, saying it smells good and they can't wait to try some.

Also, you might sneak a peek at what other sims are doing and learn a new recipe or spice blend or sauce or some baking technique or plating technique. You can sabotage their cooking by spicing it up or replacing an ingredient with something else, such as trash fruit. The results might be that one of the judges actually really likes spicy or "exotic" ingredients. You also could get caught and disqualified or booed by the crowd. Then you lose relationship points with some of them. The mischeivious ones, evil sims, childish or playful ones would think it is funny.

A potluck event could be started by having a sim call a lot of others to plan it. Then everyone brings a dish of their favorite foods or cooks it there on the spot. You are asked to set your food down on the table. Then before you eat, you visit a while and work the crowd. I think you should be able to "talk about your kids" if you have any. Also reminisce or joke about old times. Maybe pass around pictures if you have any. Whatever people usually do during a potluck. Then when it is time to eat, you take a plate and "Sample Foods" which means you take a little bit of everything. I like this style of eating, instead of having a sim pig out on one plate of food at a time. It is more realistic when having a big dinner that you eat a bit of everything. But also, if a sim is sick that might make others sick. Then someone might bring poorly made food or food that is too spicy. Then kids might not like to try new things.

I think some new recipes should be added to the game also, because everyone has different tastes and it is fun to find a new recipe at a potluck if it is made well with ingredients you like. Some things look weird and taste good. Other things look very good and don't really taste good, but are so prettily plated that it can be disappointing.

  • They had something like this in the Sims 2: Free Time. I miss this!

I hope they bring this back in the Sims 4.
  • I would love to have food contests in the game. Hot dog eating, bbq/cook out, cooking contest, baking contest, etc.

@Jaysims is right. It reminds me of Sims 2 Free Time. we need more hobbies and skill contests.
