Better Together | The Holden Household

Sul Sul!

My idea for this thread is to have a dedicated space to document what is happening in my game surrounding my favorite sim family - the Holdens! It’s like a hub for all things Holden family related, the “Holden Hub” if you will. They are a wholesome, small, close-knit family, but like all families they face their own challenges and not everything is what it seems. Alone they bring a little extra sunshine to the world, but the more the merrier, and they are better together!

For those of you who are completely new to this family, I plan to provide a brief introduction and some background information about each family member very soon. Once I am through sharing some background information, I will start to post my official family updates!

    Meet the Holdens | Wade Holden

    Background
    Wade Holden grew up in a home that focused on manners and respect towards everyone, but especially authorities. Mr. and Mrs. Holden tried to give Wade the best childhood they could although they were very strict with him. They wanted him to reach his full potential. Waylon, Wade's father, came from a long line of military officers and encouraged Wade from a young age to follow in the Holden family footsteps. With stellar academics, an outgoing personality and tons of parental discipline, Wade grew up into a very well-rounded young man. He went on to university and met a stunning young lady in the University bookstore during orientation, and well, the rest is recent history!

    Meet the Holdens | Darla Holden

    Background
    Darla had a very pleasant upbringing. Darla’s parents, Hiram and Jolene Morrison, gave her the happiest childhood she could dream of. With tons of trust and compassion, she grew up into a very nurturing young woman. Unfortunately, Darla experienced the most traumatic time of her life right before she headed off to University. She got a very devastating call, her parents were visiting Forgotten Hollow, and they never returned from that trip. Let’s just say Hiram and Jolene are watching over her from above. Darla believes that her parents brought Wade to her the first day of university orientation to reintroduce the emotion of happiness to her life.

    Meet the Holdens | Dallas Mae Holden

    Background
    Dallas is the oldest of the Holden kids. She is a very sweet child, always volunteering with her family or friends, consistently mending relationships between her peers at school, and even tutoring other children in the Homework Helpers club. Dallas is also a natural born leader. She thrives when she’s in club gatherings or working on group projects for school. One of the best ways Dallas expresses herself is through her creativity. She loves to create various crafts and write short stories in her personal journal. She brings the light to this family, and she’s got a very bright future ahead of her!

    Meet the Holdens | Keaton Wesley Holden

    Background
    Keaton is the baby of the family and the youngest of the Holden kids. Keaton is an average kid who has a wide variety of interests. He loves sports, video games, and reading Peter Barker books. As his sister Dallas is a parent’s dream, Keaton is a little rascal. Keaton’s been getting into trouble a lot at school from pulling pranks with his best friend and partner in crime, Blake. He has tons of fun when he’s mischievously pulling off each prank, but he comes home to a pretty upset mother at the end of the day. If he put half as much effort into his academics as he does with his elaborate pranks, he’d be quite a force to be reckoned with in his future!

    Holden Update 01
    Winter | Week 1 - Part I: Winter is Coming

    Highlights
    Monday - It’s family game night! After everyone returned from their uneventful days at school and work, the Holdens went down to the Magnolia Complex to have a family game night with bowling, pizza and arcade games. This family can get pretty competitive, especially at foosball. It’s the Holden family’s favorite game to play. Usually the teams are boys vs. girls, but this time it was kids vs. parents. Keaton and Dallas ended up beating Wade and Darla with a game that resulted in 5-3, and they were so ecstatic they had no idea their parents let them win.

    Tuesday - Taco Tuesday, yes please! While most of the Holden fam stuck to their typical routines, Keaton invited Blake over to hang out after school. Blake is the leader of the Winner’s Circle, a sports club for kids, which Keaton joined a season or two back. Keaton has a lot of fun when he’s hanging out with Blake because they have all the same interests. That night they kicked the soccer ball around, planned an epic food fight prank to pull after the holiday, ate taco casserole for dinner (compliments of Darla), and played rounds of VoidCritter battles until it was time for Blake’s curfew. These two peas in a pod had a great time!

    Wednesday - Time for the annual Polar Palooza! It’s all about participating in the polar plunge for charity and enjoying winter activities. The Holdens went to Bathe de Rill to take the polar plunge for Llama International, built snowpals, made snow angels, had a giant snowball fight and also went ice skating at the rink right next to their house to celebrate the start of winter. They ended their night with a hot cup of hot chocolate next to the fireplace watching Superkids: Cortex Catastrophe.

    Thursday - While Dallas was home sick with Bloaty Head, Darla got a call from Keaton’s teacher letting her know he started a food fight in the cafeteria during lunch. She told them he should help clean up as punishment, but not even an hour later she got another call from the principal letting her know that Keaton was given detention for cheating on his homework in class, and she will need to come in for a parent-teacher conference. Darla confronted Keaton about his behavior, and she told him that if he keeps it up he’ll be grounded. Keaton’s lucky Darla chose his punishment instead of Wade - he won’t get off the hook so easily next time!

    Holden Update 02
    Winter | Week 1 - Part II: A Snowy Escape

    Weekend Highlights
    Friday - It’s finally time for a winter vacation! The Holdens have been planning a trip to Mt. Komorebi for months now. Wade and Darla love going to various places to learn more about different cultures, while Dallas and Keaton find joy in the new and exciting activities. During the first day, the Holdens went on a hike around Sembenachi to make a wish at the Ema Board near the Temple, tried a local ramen dining spot, picked out new ski gear, and sang Karaoke! It’s safe to say they thoroughly enjoyed all of the family friendly activities the town could offer!

    Saturday - On the second day of their Mt. Komorebi vacation, the Holdens hit the slopes! It was a day full of snowy activities like sledding, skiing, and snowboarding. They had a sledding race, boys vs. girls, and the girls definitely won as the boys lost control of their sled. After enjoying the slopes, the kids met Yamachan at the Festival of Snow. They also took the opportunity to go hiking in the mountains to see the Cave Statue. It’s too hard to resist shouting into the cave to hear the echo that comes back! They made their way back to their ski lodge as the sun was setting. Once they got home, they tried a new hot pot recipe that the airbnb owner left for them to try.

    Sunday - It was the morning of the Holden family's flight back home from Mt. Komorebi to Newcrest. The kids were so tired from some major jet lag, and Wade and Darla took care of chores around the house. It was a pretty low key Sunday to wind down from their action-packed last couple of days.

    Holden Update 03
    Winter | Week 2 - Part I: Deck the Halls
    Highlights
    Monday - The beginning of the week marks the first day of winter break from school. The kids were home, so Darla, Dallas and Keaton enjoyed the central heating and had a quiet day at home focusing on their skills and hobbies. While Darla was keeping an eye on the kids, Wade went to Magnolia Promenade to shop for Winterfest gifts after work. The holidays are quickly approaching, and this family never misses an opportunity to be festive!

    Tuesday - It’s Winterfest Eve! Nemo came down with a case of Woozy Kittyitis. Darla took Nemo to the vet first thing in the morning before anyone woke up, and whipped up some french toast when she got home for a special Winterfest Eve breakfast. The Holdens decked the halls with plenty of festive decorations and homemade crafts that Dallas had made in her art class at school. They celebrated through the evening with a trip to a special Winterfest ceremony, baked chocolate chip cookies, and spent some quality family time and cuddles with the fireplace channel on in the background.

    Anyway, the Holdens always carol around their tree every Winterfest Eve and today was no exception, but Keaton had a prank up his sleeve as always. The family sang “Jingle bells, jingle bells” (then Keaton went off course) “Batman smells, Robin laid an egg!” Then they all burst out laughing and hugged one another. A perfect holiday for the books!

    Wednesday - Winterfest is here! The kids woke up extra early in the morning because they were too excited to open presents. Darla and Wade gave one gift to each child to hold them over until their grandparents arrived.

    Mr. and Mrs. Holden, Wade’s parents, came over for presents and Winterfest dinner.

    The gifts the kids got from their grandparents turned out to be their favorite. Keaton got the most sought after video game console, and Dallas got...wait for it.. a HUGE diamond. Keaton forgot all about the VoidCritter booster pack he got from Wade, and that diamond blew Darla’s digital camera gift to Dallas out of the water (although the camera was more expensive :/). Once the kids went upstairs to play with their new toys, Wade and Darla had to sit the grandparents down to have a little conversation about the over-the-top gifts.

    Thursday - In my game, the day after Winterfest is called the Carnival of Kindness. Everyone has work or school off to focus on volunteering and donating to those who may not be as fortunate during the holiday season. The Holden family woke up early to volunteer at the soup kitchen, and they all picked a charity to donate to. Wade and Darla went in on a large donation together to World United, Dallas donated to No Sim Left Behind, and Keaton donated to Dragon the Dinosaur Fund, which naturally turned out to be an illegitimate charity. It’s the thought that counts, right?

    Holden Update 04
    Winter | Week 2 - Part II: New Year, New Hobbies

    Weekend Highlights
    Friday - The kids were still on winter break, so they went to the PlayBarn. The Sunshine Scouts all gathered there to play pirates on the pirate ship playscape, and Dallas put on a “School Life” puppet show for her group as well. Keaton finished his aspiration of being a rambunctious scamp while at the park too!

    There is a reason why Dallas likes to go to this specific park. Boston, he’s a member of the Scouting Scoundrels group. All scouting groups meet up at the PlayBarn - Sunshine Scouts, Stellar Scouts, and Scouting Scoundrels. Dallas always looks forward to meeting up with all the scout members, but she thinks Boston is particularly special. They're really cute friends, and who knows what the future holds for these two!

    Saturday - It’s New Year’s Eve and the Holden fam is ready to start the new year off right! To begin the celebration, they each made a new year’s resolution. Dallas wants to raise a skill, Keaton wants to raise his grades (in order to attend the Love Day dance), Darla wants to complete an aspiration milestone, and Wade made a resolution to raise a skill as well. As the evening approached, they got all dressed up, and Darla made various appetizers for the family to snack on while they counted down to midnight watching the annual New Year’s Eve show hosted by the one and only Izzy Fabulous! 3, 2, 1.. Happy New Year!

    Sunday - The spring season has arrived! The first day of spring in my game is Cupcake Day! After a crazy NYE, many sims want to relax and take it easy. The only goal of the day is to swing by the spring food stall and pick up a cupcake! The Holdens stopped by the cupcake stall, and then Darla and Dallas took a yoga class at the spa while Wade and Keaton went on an ice fishing trip. Dallas was proud of herself for keeping up with her mom during the yoga class. She had a great time, and Darla is happy she found a healthy new hobby!

    Holden Update 05
    Spring | Week 1 - Part I: Swing into Spring

    Highlights
    Monday - The arrival of the new season meant it was time for some spring cleaning. Darla assigned everyone in the family a different chore to help clean the house. She did everyone's laundry, Dallas cleaned the litter box and mopped the floors, Keaton took out all of the trash, and Wade did the dishes once he got back home from work.

    Also that day, Keaton came home from school with a letter from his teacher. The letter informed his parents he was at risk of losing his privilege to attend the Love Day dance because his grades have been slipping. This was a fear of Keaton’s because he was really looking forward to going since he and Blake had a big prank planned for it! Wade took the reins and told him a long story about taking responsibility when he was a cadet in the military. Not only did the story teach Keaton a little about responsibility, but it also taught him about patience.

    Tuesday - This day was pretty uneventful for most of the family members with Wade being the exception. It was guy’s night! After helping the kids with their homework, Wade went out to The Caboose Bar & Grill to have a couple glasses of juice and play cards with some fellow Rad Dads.

    The guys weren’t the only ones having a good time at the bar that night. There was a young, strikingly beautiful girl at the bar trying to land some free drinks. Wade politely engaged and bought her a drink. Nothing’s wrong with that, right? After all, the exchange was completely innocent. Wade spent a half hour talking to the girl, and got the impression that she was fun to be around. When he got home, he thought about how nice it would be to run into her again, but he could barely remember her name, Dina, was it?

    Wednesday - It’s Nature Day, and the Holden family never misses out on celebrating. Both Wade and Darla are quite fond of being outdoors and enjoying what nature has to offer. The Holdens celebrated in various ways. Darla did some yard work as the kids cloud-gazed in the backyard. Once Wade got home from work, they all took a small trip to the neighborhood pond for some impromptu fishing.

    Although the weather was chilly, they went on a picnic to eat a fried fish dinner using the fish they caught from earlier.

    To round out the evening, they huddled around the campfire roasting marshmallows, singing campfire songs, and telling old tales about the old cursed ship that Wade's father used to tell stories about to him as a child - the Flying Dutchman!

    Thursday - The morning was off to a scary start. Captain caught Nemo eating out of his food dish, so he charged him in the kitchen. Captain bit Nemo’s ear, and Nemo scratched Cappy right in the face. Darla was startled to see this occurrence, but she quickly remedied the situation and fed Nemo on the counter, so Captain wouldn’t ever go after Nemo again.

    She later went out to lunch at the Bamboo Wok with two of her best friends from university - Elena and Serenity. Apparently there is some drama going on between the women in the Humble Housewives. Something about someone giving unsolicited parenting tips. The rest of the night was pretty uneventful as Darla helped the kids with their homework and Wade went around the house and performed some much needed repairs on some old appliances.

    Holden Update 06
    Spring | Week 1 - Part II: Foolery & Flowers
    Weekend Highlights
    Friday - Break out the hand buzzers, it’s Fool’s Day! The Holdens have a couple of Fool’s Day traditions 1) The day must start off with silly gummy bear pancakes, and 2) The whole family must wear paper bags on their heads to join in on the day’s silly spirit. Fool’s Day is Keaton’s favorite holiday because he can pull all the pranks he wants without getting in trouble, it’s part of the celebration!

    The Holdens went out to Brindleton Bay and spent the day at the PlayBarn so the kids could celebrate with their friends, got ice cream at the Bayside Shopping Center, and finished off the night with fireworks at the pier!

    Saturday - Keaton had a Winner’s Circle meeting. The Winner's Circle coach and his assistant happened to be at a conference for youth sports in Evergreen Harbor, so instead of holding practice at its usual location (usually school or the PlayBarn), it was held at the Evergreen Harbor Community Center. The community center is a known spot for homeless sims to congregate and get their needs filled up.

    Since Keaton had to go to the meeting, the entire family tagged along and made a day out of it. Wade and Darla spent the day helping pick up trash to make the area a little cleaner while Dallas played with some of the other kids on the monkey bars. Dallas saw a sim pitch a tent and go in it to sleep. She was confused and asked her dad why they were camping at the community center, so Wade sat her down to explain to her that sims don’t all have equal experiences and the importance of giving back to the community. That’s when she truly understood the cause of No Sim Left Behind.

    Sunday - Wake up, wake up, the Flower Festival is in town! The Holdens woke up early, got dressed up and attended the Flower Festival ceremony. Once the ceremony ended, they threw a small get together with the grandparents to eat brunch and spend some quality time together. The kids hunted for eggs all around the yard as the adults had drinks and enjoyed the sunny weather. The day eventually ended as the sun set, and it was time to say goodbye to the grandparents. Just before they left, Mae told Darla that they just recently got chickens, Bonnie and Clyde, and they should come over soon to see them. Darla immediately added those plans to the summer calendar - which is quickly filling up!
