It’s All in the Details, a Cantrell: The Early Year, Part Five Update
From before:
“Ready to go?” Erik said. The two changed their clothes and headed off to Tartosa. “So, have you thought about the type of flowers you want?”
“Something in blue, since we both favor that color,” Kayleigh said from the passenger side of the Hovercraft. “I can hardly believe we’re in the midst of planning our wedding. Here, I thought I had lost you. — And I want it on the record, no more World Tours, if you please.”
Erik blinked and glanced over at her. “Not even if I take you along with me? There’re some marvelous sights to be seen over in Europe.”
“Let me rephrase that, only if you take me with you.” She grinned and Erik smiled back. In less than an hour they reached Tartosa. They parked the craft and walked over to the beach. A few people were standing there, as if in wait. Erik wasn’t really all that surprised. When asked last night what plans they had for today, Erik freely mentioned their destination. Knowing what Drake had said about Carina, he realized she truly was a security risk.
Holding Kayleigh’s hand he felt her tense up. “It’s okay, Babe, your dad has no say, now. In fact, I intend to introduce you to my fans. You okay with that?”
“Uh-h-h, okay, I guess,” she sounded tentative. Erik gave her a little squeeze.
“I hated all the attention, in the beginning. You’ll get used to it.”
“Erik, can you give me an exclusive interview?” one of the two female Paparazzi asked.
“Sure,” he said.
“What are your thoughts on tomorrow’s Starlight Accolades and your most recent nomination for Best Song? Do you think you’ll win?”
“I am in very good, very talented company for that nomination. We’ll just have to see how the vote turns out. Am I excited about it, you betcha.”
“You also mentioned you are newly engaged, I’m presuming the lovely lady with you is your fiancée? Have the two of you set a date, yet, and isn’t she the gal you were dating in university?”
“That is one loaded question. Yes, no and yes, in that order. To that end, we have some details to attend to, so please forgive us.”
Leaving the beach, the two walked hand-in-hand along the promenade. There just below was the flower vendor.
The two studied the pictures of possible bouquets and the types of flowers available. “Oh, that one, that’s gorgeous. I like the fact that it’s a small bouquet, too.”
“All righty, then, we’ll take three of number 45691, and a bridal bouquet in the same size, 45791. Thank you. Order is in. What’s up, next?”
“Cake-tasting,” Kayleigh said.
“Have a great day,” Erik said to the flower vendor.
Finding the bakery shoppe, the two took their time studying the menu. “I had no idea cakes come in that many flavors. Too many to choose. Let me see, how about a slice of number five-a,” Erik said.
“Very good choice, sir.”
“I’d like to sample a slice of number ten, please,”
“Also, an excellent choice, ma’am” the woman said.
In a moment the two had their slices of cake. Erik walked over to the nearest picnic table and sat down. He didn’t realize just how hungry he was until this moment. Immediately, he was taking a bite of the blue-iced cake. “Hm, not bad. Not bad at all.”
Before Kayleigh even had a chance to take a seat another Paparazzi showed up. “Hm, cake-tasting already. Boy, you two move fast,” she said. “So, young lady, I need your name. This is a huge story and I’m going to blow it wide open.”
“Kayleigh Golden. That’s k-a-y-l-e-i-g-h.”
“Oh, there see now? I spelled it wrong, thanks for the correction. My boss is very particular. And the date for the big event?”
“Not yet settled upon,” Erik said. “We’ll let you know.”
“Okay, that should give me enough for a story. Thanks.” She said and walked off.
Once she was gone, Erik got up from the table. “You should taste this,” he said.
“No taste mine, first,” Kayleigh said with a giggle.
“All right.”
“Hm, it’s nice,” Erik said. “Now, try this one, you’re going to love it.”
“Hm, I do love it. What are the odds we could pick it out from that humongous menu, just like that?”
“I don’t know. Sheer luck, I guess. So, we’re decided on the flavor?”
“Yes, but now we have to browse for cake designs. If you think the number of flavors is giant, wait until you see how many designs of wedding cakes there are. Shapes included. Round, square, pillow . . .”
“Okay, slow down I’m beginning to feel a tad overwhelmed, here. Ready to go back?”
“Yes, I’m still worn out from last night.”
“Me, too. This was fun,” Erik said. “I love you.”
“Yes, it was fun. I love you more,” She teased. Erik laughed; they hadn’t played that one-up game in a long time. Finally, he felt back to where they left off when he headed out for his first world tour. All was again right in his world. And he was relived.
He also knew clothing was next on the list. Her gown, the bridesmaids’ gowns, there would be three, a Maid of Honor and two maids. Erik’s style of outfit, tux, or a simple wedding suit, had to be decided upon, too. The colors of gowns, and his clothing. Should his groomsmen wear the same, only in whatever color was decided upon. So many details to see to. Erik was always a bit of a clothes horse. He was busy eyeing a tuxedo, with tails . . .keeping in mind that this was her day, he would wear whatever she chose and was happy to do so.
Then there was the matter of how to wear their hair. Up, down, pulled back? As for the bride’s entourage, up, down. Hayleigh’s hair was cropped very short. Brianna, the chosen Maid of Honor, so that Kayleigh wouldn’t have to choose between her sisters for the role. Bree’s hair was very long. Up or down, when Regina’s hair was just to her shoulders. Erik shook his head. For himself, he planned on pulling it back as he did at one of the awards shows. Gave him a cleaner look, that way, over his signature style.
Picking a date was as yet a bit problematic. They found the venue already, online. St. Antony’s in Windenburg. A tragedy had befallen St. James’. The fire department determined it was arson. Father James gave them the sad news. Smoked inhalation caused the Cleric to have a heart-attack. He would be stuck in the hospital for quite some time. “I hope you can find another priest to marry you. If not, do a civic wedding and I’ll be more than happy to Bless your marriage at a later date. Please forgive me.”
“Father, you concentrate on getting well. We’re praying for you.”
When they reached their home in Old New Henford, Erik gave Aaron a call. Aaron must have run across the field and up the hill, he got there so fast. Erik barely had time to change into cooler clothing. “Aaron, I have a very special request for you. I know you’re a judge in the lower circuit, but is it possible for you to act as our Officiant?”
“I would be honored,” he said, giving his next younger brother a hug.
“I know I’ll need three groomsmen, since Kayleigh has three bridesmaid, counting her Maid of Honor. I’m going to ask Spock. Do you think Dad would stand for me?”
“I think he’d do it with bells on. Just as soon as you pick a date, let me know so I can clear my calendar.”
All for now, thanks for reading!

She just showed up. LOL I had to do something with her, else the picture would be useless. Yeah, I'm thinking who needs the Rehearsal Dinner? They don't manage to rehearse and those that do practice going down the aisle makes little difference come the Day. . .
