Chemistry System based on Traits

There have been many Simmers suggesting bringing back the Chemistry system from TS2 and TS3 to make the social interactions more fun and interesting.

I watched this video which showcases a mod that introduces a Chemistry system based on Traits. Just watch it. It makes the Sims feel more alive! In real life you also don't get along with everybody. I was shocked to see how realistic these situations now felt, instead of social interactions always being a happy marshmallow festival.

For example a "Hates Children" Sim shouldn't get along that well with a "Family-Oriented" Sim or an "Evil" Sim shouldn't get along with a "Good" Sim.

To give players a work-around on this chemistry system I would suggest adding an "Attractive" reward trait (bought by Satisfaction Points) that makes them compatible with everyone.

How do you like this idea? :)
  • I think an Attraction system would work best if it was like the Sims 2, where we could choose a combination of personality traits AND physical appearance.

I've chatted up girls who I thought were more boring than watching paint dry, solely because I was physically attracted to them, even if our personalities weren't a great match (me being a Geek, them being a Bro). Sometimes it went well and I learned there was more to them than I thought, other times it didn't, and we never got along.

So if Maxis does implement an attraction system (and they should), I think we should get to choose what our Sims are attracted to, instead of having the game decide for us. What if we want a Geek who's attracted to girls out of his league? (say, he likes Blonde Bros with big boobs), meanwhile, his equally Geeky roommate likes Redhead Geeks with glasses. The roommate might also be totally ripped and has tattoos, and lucky for him, his dream Redhead likes muscles and tattoos!
  • Creator of the mod here, that's not all! Personality won't be the only one affecting chemistry in the final version. I plan to add Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs like The Sims 2.

I loved the zodiac and chemistry traits. It makes some relationships more amusing and a challenge. I hope we get them back someday. Until then, I should check out that mod.
  • @simmythesim well thank you for your mod, I can't wait to see the final version!
  • Yes!

I've been waiting for something like this for so long. @simmythesim, thank you so very much for this. :)
  • @kwanzaabot Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs are like chemistry, except instead of being based on traits, it'll be based on your sims' appearance and accomplishments.

There is a large amount of turn ons and turn offs. Here's what I've done so far. Keep in mind I haven't added skills and careers yet, along with some appearance options.

Here's the list of turn ons and turn offs you can pick at the moment!

    "HairColor_Blonde", "HairColor_Platinum", "HairColor_Black", "HairColor_Brown", "HairColor_DarkBrown",

I plan to add more stuff, like I dunno, sims being attracted to muscles or fat, a trait that makes your sim have neutral chemistry with everyone, and sims getting turned on/off by sim skills and careeers.
  • @simmythesim I finally got around to watching a video review of this mod, and man, does it look good. The text popups don't look at all out of place with the rest of the game (except for one "sim" instead of "Sim" grammar error), and it incorporates itself into existing gameplay pretty seamlessly.

    Consider me impressed.

How are turn-ons and turn-offs going to work?
