Collect-Them-All Shopping Mall

Requires Get to Work Expansion Pack

Taking inspiration from the Collector’s Museum Challenge, in which every collectible item in the game is displayed in a museum, the goal of this challenge is to complete a minimum of 5 collections and sell them in a shopping mall that the player will build from the ground up.

Getting Started

  • Find or bulldoze an empty lot 40x30 or larger in the world of your choice and change the lot type to Retail. Be sure to include the required cash register and counter on the lot as well.
  • Set aging to Long in the Options Menu and create one human or occult sim (no vampires). Give him/her any name, aspiration and traits you’d like.
  • Move your sim into a starter home or empty lot in the world of your choice.
  • Use the remaining household funds to buy the retail lot you made and transfer all of your sim’s money to the store. Your household funds should now be at $0.
  • Begin building your mall.

Income

  • Your sim cannot have a career. They must earn money through the creative arts, such as painting, sculpting, woodworking, writing, vlogging (Get Famous), songwriting, flower arranging (Seasons) and music producing (Get Famous). None of your sim’s creations are allowed to be sold in the mall.
  • Any duplicate collectibles found in the world cannot be sold in the mall as well. They can only be sold directly from the sim’s inventory.
  • If you have Island Living installed, your sim may work the occasional odd job for extra cash.
  • If your sim earns money through gardening, their garden must contain only one of each plant-type. Meaning, they cannot have multiples of a particular flower, herb, vegetable or fruit (alien plants included) on their home and/or retail lot. You are allowed to have one money tree.
  • All proceeds from collected items sold in the shopping mall must be used toward completing the mall and cannot be transferred to your household funds to pay bills or be used for pleasure.

Shopping Mall
You are free to hire retail staff, buy store perks and build the shopping mall in any architectural style you’d like so long as you adhere to the following requirements:

  • 5 or more stores with each shop housing a single, completed collection. (A store just for MySims trophies, for example.)
  • A food court with 3 or more sets of tables and chairs/picnic tables.
  • A minimum of 2 food stalls for the food court, one of which must be for the Cupcake Factory machine. (Yes, you are allowed to sell cupcakes and other food at the mall, but it won't count as a collection shop.)
  • At least 1 bathroom with 2 or more toilet stalls.
  • All plants and trees from the garden plant collection that you choose to include in the mall must be used for landscaping purposes only and will not count as one of the collection shops needed for the mall. On the flip side, the harvestables plucked from those plants can be sold in their own store and therefore count as one of the required completed collections.
  • Decorate your mall any way you like with as much stuff as you like. Just know that none of the clutter items, wall decals, pictures, statues, miscellaneous items, clothing, etc. can be sold in the mall. Only collectibles can be sold.
  • All money transferred to the mall or earned at the mall must stay in the mall. At no point are you allowed to move money from the mall’s account to your household funds.

Collections
Choose 5 or more collections to complete from the list below. All items can be found in the world, stolen (if your sim has the Kleptomaniac trait), or bought, such as through the phone (Purchase Gifts) or from a vendor/kiosk. Items collected on holidays featuring garden gnomes, Father Winter, or the Flower Bunny (Seasons) are also okay to keep.

  • At no point is your sim allowed to extend their life via youth and immortality potions or by becoming a vampire.
  • For those with Discover University installed, you are allowed NPC roommates.
  • Romantic partners/spouses and any teen children from that relationship, should your sim choose to have any, are permitted to have a part time job or career. For active careers such as Scientist, Doctor, Detective or Actor, always choose the Send Alone option on the pop up menu.

  • If your sim dies before the mall is completed, no one else in the family is allowed to take over the business and the challenge is over.

Hard Mode

  • Set aging in the Options menu to Normal. At no point is your sim allowed to extend their life via potions, magic or becoming a vampire.
  • Move your sim onto an empty lot and use the Money Cheat to set their household funds to $0.
  • Once your sim has earned enough money to buy a retail lot, transfer all remaining funds toward the mall. Your household funds should now be at $0.
  • Any money earned at the mall stays at the mall and any money earned at home stays at home. Transferring money to and from the mall account and household funds is not allowed.
  • If your sim’s invites a romantic partner to move in with them, you may not keep the partner’s incoming money. Use the Money Cheat and subtract that amount from the household funds.
  • Neither your sim or any romantic partners or teen/young adult/adult children can have a part time job or career. Odd jobs are okay.
  • If your sim dies before the mall is completed, no one else in the family is allowed to take over the business and the challenge is over.
