Composting free update concept
Item
Composting bin: a item to store organic scraps like fruits, vegetables or fishes to produce fertilizer for harvesting plants.
Background
The first and only composting bin in The Sims series was introduced in The Sims 2 Seasons. Back then, Sims can compost raked leaves, newspaper and other organic scraps to produce fertilizer in a bin-like object and then, using it in their gardens to enhance their harvesting.

The Sims 3 Store introduced a similar but oversized object, the Gardening Station, but it worked more like a greenhouse than a composting item.

In The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle, a insect farm item was introduced that can produce bio fuel but not fertilizer. It's more a green energy related item than a gardening one.

Current status
Since Sims can add directly the organic scraps as fertilzier to their plants, they must store a lot of items in their inventories, without any consecuences like in real life, like for example, carrying pets poop or dead fishes that can sure decrease the hygiene.
So a composting bin can make gardening more realistic and release some objects from the Sims inventories.
Compatibility
Since gardening and fishing are features included in base game since The Sims 3, the composting bin must be a base game update, without being attached with other packs or kits to be used.
However, composting bin can be compatible with expansion packs like:
Seasons: Sims can add the raked leaves.
Eco Lifestyle: Sims can search in their trash bins or communitary dumpster for organic scraps.
Cats & Dogs: Sims can add the pets poop.
Gameplay
Composting bin (1x2 tiles) must be placed outside and it cost $200 in Outdoor activities (By Room) or Misc Appliances (By Function).
It haves a limited capacity of 20 organic items between food scraps, garden crops, fishes and others, depending of the pack. Sims can add manually or using the live debug feature to the bin and wait. In the original Sims 2 object, there's a led light that indicates when the fertilizer is ready to use. Each scrap takes 12 hours to be composted.
Sims can enhance the composting bin with two upgrades:
-Red worm: ordering a red worm with a computer can help to reduce the scraps to fertilizer from 12 hours to 6.
-Sensor: upgrading the bin with a smart sensor, it will notify the Sim when the fertilizer is ready to use. Players can choose between a phone call or a notification bar message.
The quality of the fertilizer will be always the same, despite in real life, it will depends of which scraps you adds to the composting bin.
Sims can also store fertilizer in other small items like bags (depending of how many they have) to selling it later.
Issues
Like all objects, the composting bin can malfunction after some time. One of the possible issues can be liquid leak from the bin that can produce a bad smell, so Sims must repare the bin or replacing it.
Impact
Like laundry items activates the laundry system, placing a composting bin will impact in the lot.
Now if a Sim haves pets poop, spoiled food or dead fishes in their inventories, their hygiene will decrease quicker than in normal circunstances.
Future
Now, what if, the wanted farming pack arrives to The Sims 4? How to manage the manure produced by livestock or poultry or dead plants after the harvest?
Can you live making fertilizer as a business?
What if lawn mowing or trimming plants retuns as a feature, having more scraps to composting?
