Ha, I figured that picture of Gretel having a nightmare would come in handy. In the original story, I think Gretel is a very flat character. She's almost helpless. I want Hansel to be a logical thinker and Gretel to be more attuned to what is really going on through her dreams. So, I hope this way both she and Hansel can grow as characters by learning to rely on each others' strengths.
Anyway, I've said too much. I must get back to editing screenshots!
I was angry that Papa had forgotten Mama so quickly. Papa would frown at me and say, "We need an extra pair of hands. The wheat isn't going to plant itself."
One day, in the garden...
Gretel asked, "Why do we bury the dead?"
Papa replied with a song: "Within this hard-shelled body, the wheat's true form doth sleep. When the outer shell hath rotted, the grain spring-eth up, complete."
Gretel shook her head. "What?"
In reply, Papa finished digging the row, singing, "And if such be true for barley-corn, then 'tis more true for man twice-born."
But the grain did not rise from its earthen mound that year.
White flakes fell from the sky during Midsummer. At first, I thought it was snow.
It was ash.
Hilda was always scolding Papa (and us) about how much we ate. Our stomachs ached. We felt hollowed-out, tense.
I started stealing bread and cheese from the pantry at night so that Gretel and I could eat. One night, she told me of another dream.
Wow. On the one side I get that food is scarce since the crop totally failed, but she should fish and feed those kids! I'm also in awe of Gretal's Clairvoyant capabilities. This is an intriguing story.
I am wondering what was in Gretel’s dream? She knew what was going to happen in the earlier one. It is sad that Handel has to steal food from the pantry at night for them to eat as they are hungry🙁
It is great that you have a blog for your story 🙂It was great reading the two updates. It feel sorry for Hansel and Gretel, being warned of what is coming next by the bear.🙁
