Help! How to delete single floor tile?

I know this is probably a silly question but I just can't figure it out! How do you delete a single floor tile? I made a room on the second floor that I don't want completely enclosed with walls, I want railing instead. Well whenever I go to delete some of the floor tiles to make the room in the shape that I want it keeps highlighting the entire floor! What do I need to push in order to highlight single tiles only? I think I remember hearing something about it in one of the videos they showed us last week but I can't find it. :/
TIA

I have found that if you build a room around your stairs ( where you want to build railing) then delete the floor. Then replace the wall with your desired fence ( don't delete the wall. Build straight over it with your fence). I then deleted the area of fence where my Sims come on to my landing and the floor tiles remained deleted.
    Hope it helps

    This worked for. Thanks.
  • I think I might have found out, how to do that:

First you create a little room 1x1 f.e. and delete the whole rest.
By doing that you can leave the stairs where you wanted them to be,
for it only deletes the floor.

Second, now you can start and spread the 1x1 Room f.e. on the 2nd floor,
    in any shape you please.

Do not delete the floor in that 1x1 room,
    but everything around it.

    Actually thats it.

    Have a nice day guys.
  • Hi! I have been having a similar problem, only it's to do with a rounded floor section. I have managed to narrow it down to the 3 and a half floor tiles which are bugging but I can't seem to get rid of them! I have tried everything I can think of - repairing game, restarting computer, bulldozing lot, moving lot, installing another lot, even just using the delete tool. Nothing works! I can't build over it or around it; dialogue boxes saying "Failed to compute cost" or "Invalid rounded piece intersection". Has anyone had the same problem and has a solution that doesn't involve deleting all my files and losing everything?
  • Be careful when making open foyers in a house with friezes as well. Removing flooring / ceilings marks the room as external and you'll get the frieze trimmings inside your home.

    Hello @Rooky101
Other simmers are also having the same issue. You may like to post feedback on this AHQ EA thread

  • I figured out something. In my case the floor tile was at the top of a staircase. I ended up drawing a piece of fence across the top edge of the top stair, which normally wouldn't be allowed but somehow it glitched the room border and allowed me to delete that tile.
