How do you guys build 2 floor foyers?

Hi everyone

I love the look of a 2 floor foyer where you walk in the house and there is a beautiful wide open space where the ceiling is 2 floors high and the staircase goes up and looks high. I have always been able to do this in under 1 minute in sims 2 and 3, but with 4, they radically changed the tools, and the game is not letting me have a room with no floor.

I've tried using the platform tool, and have had little success, but the game gives me a very difficult time placing a ceiling on the 2nd floor. When I remove the 1st floor ceiling in the foyer, it also removes the 2nd floor ceiling, and it will not let me have it back.

If I get the chance, I'll post pictures of me attempting this in 4.

I wish we could just place tiles the way it was in sims 2 and 3. How do you guys work around this? Thanks.

  • Good news! I think there may have been an update go through, because building 2 floor foyers has just became much easier. Here is the new method.

  • Build the wall that separates your hall from the bedrooms.
  • Build a fence with the drawing tool to separate your upstairs hall from the foyer. There should be no opening for the stairs.
  • The foyer should be recognized as a different room from the upstairs hall. Click on the foyer floor and click 'remove floor'.
  • Place your stairs so that the top meets right where your fence is. The fence in front of the stairs should go away.

Without my method, there would be no possible way to place a ceiling within the yellow area.

you should still be able to use the room tool on that floor and drag it over your foyer in order to get a ceiling. Then again I never had the problem of a disappearing ceiling if I removed a floor of a room
