Magic as a Lifestyle

I know a lot of people have been asking for Witches, but I actually don’t really want them as their own life state. I want magic in my game, but I would prefer it if magic was something any sim could learn. A sim could start out looking up magic online, then get a book online and move along the path of witchcraft that way. Then they could choose which kinds of magic to learn, and move on from there.
  • You're just in luck. Over at Mod the Sims, there is a Sorcerer Mod that makes your Sim a Sorcerer by a CAS trait, you should definitely check it out. So far it works really nice and is compatible with the latest patch.

I personally disagree with your idea just because I want more lifestates in the game, especially Witches! The supernatural aspect of the Sims is always a personal favorite. So if an when Witches get added, you could not buy that and instead use the Mod that I stated above!
  • If Witches are added as a Lifestate, Then they better be able to be Applied to other Occults, Because the only Witch Experience I ever got to play was in Sims 3, and I absolutely hated the fact that Spellcasting to it's fullest extent could only be acheved by Being a Witch, I personaly hate the Idea of Witches being a Lifestate, because in Lore about being s who PRACTICE MAGIC, They are not always Old Women with POINTY HATS, There are Vampires who practice magic, and other Lifeforms as well, Magic is a Tool Not a LIfestate.

Now don't get me wrong, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE more Lifestates, just not Spellcasters as a Single, Non-Mixable (as in only witcthes practice magic) Person. I believe if MAXIS/EA are planning to have more Lifestates in the game, Add something ENTIRALLY NEW, or Remake an Previous Lifestate BETTER THEN WHAT WAS DONE BEFORE (like even an update to the Alien Lifestate, allow us to be more creative in their Appaerance other than Scale Facepaint, and Multicolor Skin, allow us to make really ALIEN LOOKING SIMS, like an Asari from Mass Effect, or a Twi'lek from the Star Wars Universe, or even allowing extra Limbs and Eyes, and Tails), Like how the Vampire Gamepack was done.
  • Ever since I've been thinking about the potential addition of magic, I've been thinking much the same. I'd love magic as a complex skill that any sim can learn. I also think it could be really cool if the fairy lifestate came back at the same time, so fairies could learn magic faster and unlock a few extra fairy powers as they learn the skill. Ideally I'd love it if magic was not entirely linear, too. Like as you learn magic, you can select specific powers, or read books to learn specific spells, or something like that. I want my fairies and witches to be varied.
  • Once again, I explained my idea about this in another Witches-related thread that can be an easy resolution for all:

I'd rather they did a compromise wherein we get both a Witch lifestate and a Magic skill for everyone to learn, not just Witches. There's already a similar structure present in Vampires, where there is a Vampire lifestate and a separate Vampire lore skill that everyone can learn, but vampires get the most benefit out of it. Having a separate Magic skill can be far more beneficial (and more superior) for Witch lifestates that naturally have magic in their veins than say some random Sim trying it out.

Personally, I'm more preferable to the fact that there are some who are just born with the magic and by and large naturally better at it. However, that doesn't mean others who weren't born with it should be barred from the magic artes simply of the fact that magic was not born in their veins. However, it'd give a possible lifestate more credence for its existence for that those who weren't born with it simply aren't as powerful with magic as those who are.
  • That's a really good idea. Plus, I too am not 100% with witches. Like you said, I think a sim should be able to become a witch through skill building. <3

A new magic related active career would be good for this as well.

I'm not sure if we NEED a witch life-state as long as we can study witch-craft. Also, lots of suitable occult clothing whether you're good or bad. Maybe a trait that means you've been born with an innate skill for magic instead.

Either way, just how different would born witches look? After all, Vampires require two sets of clothes.

I don't want fairies at the same time though. At least not if it reduces the attention spent on learning and casting magic.
  • No... Magic is Complex for that very reason, it is not a skill that a Human can simply research and start doing.

Magic isn't a Life Style it's a Way of Life, The Arcane is an innate ability to manipulate the world around you. Without this trait, cannot wield such power.

For me my sorcerer is your average millennial he looks human, the only thing is I want his eyes to glow ember when he's doing magic.

But it's not about looks, well it's a part of that, But it's more about mechanics

a Human doing magic wouldn't survive long in the game. Magic always comes with a price and if you're not careful it may cost you your sim's life.

Magic shall feed off of 3 factors. What shall determines the strength of your power and success.

Needs - Primarily Energy, it is important your sim get's their fill of rest before they start their day. Magic is a form of Energy, and it will drain you if you are a human. However For Sorcerers they have 2x more energy than the average human.
Also Important to keep your needs good because Emotions depend on how you are feeling.

    Emotions

    Strongest
    Focused
    Inspired
    Confident
    Energized

    Best
    Medium
    Happiness
    Fine

    Distracted
    Flirty
    Playful
    Embarrassed

    Worst
Anger - While you are strong, magic made from anger and hate, usually doesn't end well for the caster.

    Weakest
    Tense
    Uncomfortable
    Depressed

Experience - perfecting your craft, For me, my sorcerer is well versed in Fire/Earth based Magic, Light and Dark magic, Blood Magic, Conjuring, Enchanting, Potion/Curse Making and Forbidden Spells.

Now My sim isn't casting spells, hovering over his cauldron, or reading his spell book every second of the day or aspiring to become the worlds greatest Sorcerer. You only desire that if you were born a human and you lust for power.

However magic is sort of like sports, singing, you don't just get up and do it, and if you take a break for a while you'll notice things start decaying. Should you decide to take a break from magic you'll notice your power is a lot weaker than it was before you took a break.
  • I want witches as a lifestate. Witches do not need to look any different than other sims, but they are born with the talent (or made through potion or whatnot).

Not to say that regular sims should not be able to perform certain (limited) magics. In previous iterations, human sims could use some magical items. But for full-out magical ability, I want a lifestate.

Witches are the most important thing I want in Sims 4. It's important to me that they are unique.
