It would also allow personalities to change throughout a Sims life and would add a feel of realism and actually have the environment to affect the Sims. For example a child who sees their parents having relationship troubles or even a divorce would be more hesitant in starting a romantic relationship.
It would definitely be cool to see traits change over time. Not to get to much into a nature/nurture discussion - partially because I'm not expert on the subject and partially because those who are experts have been debating the topic for ages without seeming to ever get closer to an answer - but I would argue that most of the things traits represent in 4 are things that can be developed by environment as much or even more so than chance/birth.
Of course, I could see some people taking issue with not having total control over their Sims, but it's something they could at least include with NPC Sims. Once again I'm thinking of Stellaris where each Pop has a certain chance each time period of becoming more or less extreme in an Ethos or of developing a new one entirely. And then maybe for player-controlled Sims the players would have the option of manually altering trait extremity by expending a small amount of Satisfaction Points depending on how they want to roleplay.
