1935...

1935 was a long year for everyone, including me.

At the first of the year for the twins, Lewis adopted 3 pets to add to the family. He got Warren a Bermese Mountain named Bacon, Delores was given an American Bobtail housecat named Juniper, and Lewis took in a Plott Hound named Mimi. It had been a few years since Prissy's passing and he wanted some fur babies back in the house.

While history states that not many people were getting married at a young age during the Depression Era, the average age for men was 24 and for women 21.

William Johnson got married to Jane Pinup. They moved into a small and inexpensive Victorian in the town of Newcrest where he was able to find work as a teacher.

Since everyone was old enough now to join clubs (sure wish we could include toddlers in clubs) the last of the cousins were able to get the twins into the Family Club of Cousins2 for family gatherings.

So as the year entered about halfway in, Lewis finally got around to confronting Nellie. He forced her hand in that she was going to tell Frank about the affair or he was. She was very upset as she felt it wasn't really his business and it was an accident in her eyes as she was highly under the influence of booze. It was not something she intended to happen or would happen again. She loves her family and didn't want to hurt anyone. Lewis did not hear her plea to let it go. He felt like regardless of the circumstance his brother should know and perhaps get her help for her drinking hobby. She relented and told Frank. At first Frank was taken by surprise, not sure what to think or how to feel. He knew she had a problem but didn't know how uncontrollable that problem had become. He sat for a moment in silence, and then he got angry. He didn't understand how she could do this to him, to their family. He came to believe that regardless she should have known better. They spent the rest of the year esstranged from one another.

Just before Mary's 18th Birthday Connor asked her to marry him. He had got a job laboring and found a small apartment a block from his aunt's. While it wasn't a far distance from his mean uncle it was a chance to get away from them and he wanted to take Mary with him. She said yes and was married only a few months before her birthday. After settling in to the new place Connor convinced Mary to see her family and he would go with her. It was a happy reunion and Ruth held on as tight to her as she could. She thanked Connor for bringing her baby back to her and welcomed him in to the family. Paul, still in his gloomy state was also very happy to see her. He took them all to the park for a family outing. He also scolded her for taking off and they with no word of where she was or how she was doing for the last 2 years. Two years of worry and no hope of ever seeing her again. He then told her that no matter what hard times they face they are a family and will be able to survive it together. It brought tears to her face and she finally felt more a part of them and while he wasn't her natural father, he really did see her as his own and she never felt like an outsider again. Before the year ended she became Pregnant and ready to start her own little family.
