I'm loving the latest instalment.
On sixties fashion...which I've become an accidental expert in since beginning Sim 66...You're looking at two distinct eras: 1960-64 and 1965 onwards. That early part is defined by the Jackie Kennedy, Chanel suit look. The skirts and dresses become more tapered and men's suits become slimmer fitting. I find that period of fashion and the whole look of the early 60s to be quite creepy. The beehive hairdos with tons of lacquer, the overemphasised upper eyelashes and stiffness don't flow like the 1950s or how the late 60s turned out. Films like Lolita and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane plus a lot of the late black and white TV of that time gave the decade a slightly sinister, creepy look. From 1964 in the UK and 1965 in the US things started to free up and even the even more overemphasised make up didn't look creepy, it looked fun and playful. That's a big reason why Sim 66 takes place from 1966 onwards; I wanted a more fun, upbeat and playful looking setting.
You can keep the late 60s look going into around 1973-74. The mini skirt doesn't vanish off the fashion scene until '74 (it comes back in 81-82 and stays around even to now) and you can mix and match long, short and in between from 1970 until then. No man will have short, cropped hair from 1970 to the end of the decade...unless they become a punk rocker in 1977. But that's all a long way away from 1960.
