My Decades Challenge

Steven Damme turns 18. Lucky for him he gets to go to Vietnam, I'm so ready for this war to be over. Steven is the son of Warren and Evelyn, grandson of John Sr. and Amalie, and great-grandson of Lewis, and great great-grandson of our founder Emmet and Carolina and great great great grandmother Elizabet. (side note... might be time to update the family tree.)

Next up Cynthia Fox becomes a child. (The age range I am using is newborn for 1.5 years, Toddler is 1.5 to 5 years of age, Child is 6 to 12 Years of age. Teen is 13 to 17 years of age, Young Adult is 18 to 29, Adult is 30 to 49, and Elder is 50 to their death rate age). She is the grandchild of Dorothy Rogers and great-grandchild of Francis.

Rezy becomes an Elder. He is the companion of Edward and Sayuri. Now in the care of Edwards son Mark. Mark has had to tend to his family at such a young age. His mother Chiyo has fallen into a deep depression and he can only hope and pray they find his father soon.

Kim Fuller becomes a toddler. Daughter to Susan and granddaughter to George Johnson. She is the great-grandaughter of Ruth.

Amalie has a talk with Warren about his drinking. With his son away at war, he has his wife and this family to tend to and can't be wasting his family legacy away in a bottle. Warren promises to quit and adopts a puppy to fill the void. He names her Fae and she is a Retriever. Having her and taking care of his mother gives him a sense of purpose again.

Michelle Hughes is born. Maybe they were pregnant before getting married, but who cares about that kind of thing in the 1970s. She is the granddaughter of Betty and Henry Hughes.

As you know Teresa and Bobby just weren't getting along. She was bound and determined to discover his secret. She knew he was hiding something from her mother but just didn't know what. There were way too many strange things going on in the house and she was terrified all the time. Lights would flicker and things would go missing or not be where they were last put. Strange noises would come from that locked room that they weren't allowed to enter.

Bobby even got so frustrated with her prying that he became so paranoid that he lashed his behavior out on Marge as well. "Your daughter is out to get me and so are you" he'd tell her. The tension was just getting thicker and thicker.

One day Teresa had gotten home early from school. She discovered Bobby doing some kind of enchantment and doing weird things in the parlor and weird things happening. Finally, Teresa just couldn't stand it anymore. She was breaking into that room. But she would have to wait until dark after he went to bed.

Shock and aww came about her as she entered. She couldn't believe it. The word what a Weirdo came to mind, but as she circled the room skulls, possessed dolls, voodoo, and all sorts of evil were in that room.

She would have to wait till morning to tell and show her mother. But she could never get her mother alone so she confronted them straight on. Bobby smirked off her accusations and was angry she went into his private dwelling. Marge tried to smooth things over and calm Teresa down when she noticed that Bobby had snuck out of the room.

She confronted him right at the door demanding to see what he had in there. With frustration and ill content, he obliged her. Shock and fear came over her face. She couldn't believe it. Why did he have these things, what was he into? He confessed that he was in a cult of witches and they collect what is thought to be possessed items. Marge was furious. He had her and her child in a home where crazed rituals and hexing was taken place. Marge was a big believer in the spiritual world and she did not believe in messing with it. She left him and got divorced as soon as she could.

Marge went to her son and asked if they could stay until they could find a place. John had to confer with Cher as it was her home. Cher reluctantly agreed and told Teresa she hopes they find a place soon.

Marge and Teresa didn't stay much in the house, they were always out and about trying to stay out of the way. But Marge was sad, she was sad of her husband's loss, sad that she had her child in a home with a man she didn't truly know, sad she had no other place to go.

John didn't mind them being there. He loved his mother and was bound to help her any way he could. It had come time for him to graduate. He got his engineering degree and went out to celebrate. It wasn't long after that a Gentleman, Mr. Owens, the CEO of a steel company approached him offering him a job as an electrical engineer. John was excited and accepted his offer. He told his mother of the news and the sign-on bonus. He would have enough to have a down payment on a home and get his family back on their feet.

So he bought his mother a home. Cheryl was less than thrilled. She thought he should be focusing more on her and their future.

We end the year with the Death of Amalie. She lived to be 71 years of age. Since the death of her son John Sr., she had been tending to most of the work on the home farm as Warren ran his family's Fishing Business that Emmet had begun so long ago. Delores, his sister, and Eve, his wife, were worried if her death would relapse his newfound sobriety. But for now, only time will tell as they endure this loss.
