Having more than one save / challenge (for me) could get confusing. It does provide variety and keeps the game fresh and interesting. ;)
This is the only challenge I am doing at the moment and have generation six children bring groomed to take over. I think it is generation six ... without a family tree it is hard to keep track. B)
Regardless I am now at §671,271 of §1,000,000 and getting hopeful to meet goal.
I usually forget to take photos as well. If I get too focused on photos I begin forgetting to play the game! Basically my two stories are legacy ones (particularly if this takes six generations...) just different rules.
I've done an asylum challenge recently
HERE and my Wonderchild one (in progress) but I use them as a quick break from the big ones! When I don't want to feel I have to document each incident! Lol! Just get on and play! :)
