#BnS154 - Fall Designer ShowdownThe deadline for this challenge is 31 October 2021It’s time for the Fall Designer Showdown!
This one is going to be a little bit of a puzzle - but you only get one of the pieces! You will have to design the rest yourself.
Twelve unfinished living rooms have been designed and uploaded onto the gallery. Your task is to choose one of these living rooms and design an entire house to go with it. You can place the room on any size lot in any world.
The lot with the rooms can be found by searching for Fall Designer Showdown 2021, #bns154 or #Fall2021 on the gallery.
THE BRIEFYou can change the size, shape and layout of the room.
You can change all color swatches.
You can change the size, position and number of windows and lights. The one thing you can’t change is the style of the room, so if you choose to replace something, it must be with something else of the same style. (Don't replace all furniture, keep at least one original object. This rule can be overridden by Note 2. For example, you want to do an Industrial style build but the room is empty.)
The completed house needs at least two bedrooms and one bathroom, a living room kitchen/dining, and any other spaces you decide toad, budget permitting.
Landscaping is important and must match the style of the house.
Budget: 150,000
Note 1: If your chosen style has missing objects because you don’t have the pack, don’t worry about it. Pick something of the same style to replace it.
Note 2: Storybook is a real architectural style, examples can be found here: 57 plans found! (architecturaldesigns.com)
Note 3: Boho is more about decor than architecture, so pick a style you think it will work well with.

ENTRY DETAILS: I fell in love with the Boho living room and I had a ton of fun trying to get the style right. Inspired by a picture I saw online, I decided to build a Victorian-style shell. The kitchen and dining room being divided by a chimney was actually inspired by the Victorian house I grew up in, which has this feature, and it was really fun incorporating it and continuing it downstairs to divide the living room from the hallway. I ended up using items from the original living room throughout the house because I wanted a bigger couch in the living room and the rest of the room ended up being designed around that (I'm also planning to incorporate more items into an outdoor seating area). I tried to keep the whole house cozy and fun, with rooms either being colorful or using warm neutrals. I learned a ton about the different ways Bohemian design can look while building the house, and every room was based on one or more reference photos. I think my favorite room is the parents room.
I put the house on a 50x50 lot because I had a cool idea for the landscaping where I'd surround the house with a forest and build little walking trails and different areas (gardens, sitting areas, etc.) throughout the forest. Unfortunately, I moved the house to the lot, added a bunch of trees to roughly show the idea, and then woke up the next day with no power. My power was out for almost two days, so I didn't have time to finish the landscaping (for the same reason, this house isn't playtested). Please judge the house as-is, but know that the random items outside (including 2 mailboxes) and otherwise unfinished landscaping are not intentional parts of the build. I'm hoping to finish the landscaping within the first few days of November and I'll share a new lot link and slideshow on here when I do (just for fun, not for judging).

ENTRY DETAILS: I decided to go with the Queen Anne style and gear it toward a Victorian woman (Sara Wilchester) who loves to garden. There is a large greenhouse on the side of the home where Sara can garden to her heart’s delight. She can then transplant any flowers she grows to her romantic garden side yard, complete with pond inhabited by swan. The actual front of the home is to the side with a wrap-around porch to the front of the building.
There is also Victorian era entertainment available, including cross stitch, knitting, and the grand piano. In addition to the formal dining room, there is also a small nook in the kitchen for casual dining. The upstairs boasts a Grand Bathroom with large tub platform in which to soak in the views and the bubbles! The Master Bedroom and attached bath are the perfect size for a lady of the age to sit and read, prepare her clothing and make-up, and take herself in with the floor length mirror. Also, due it to being the Victorian age (if we ignore the TV and computer), there was an obsession with the paranormal at the time, and so the guest bedroom was turned into a dual purpose séance room. The guest bedroom also leads to a wrap-around balcony on the second floor.
I also created Sara Wilchester so that she could make the cross stitch hangings in the hallway near the stairs. As hostess to this viewing, she is presented cross stitching in a few photos and a display of her attributes and style are available on the slideshow webpage.

ENTRY DETAILS:
I chose to design in the category of "French Country" for this challenge. This was indeed a challenge! I scrapped it all and started over many times in an effort to reflect this style in a very genuine way. I've built chateau-like homes in the game that were very French in the architectural style (Second Empire) and decorated with very plush and expensive furnishings. I felt that "French Country" isn't quite a Chateau but it's a combination of a few different styles and they include, "Cottage", "Farmhouse" and "Shabby-Chic". I felt the interior should have a rustic and comfortable feel, using lighter fabrics and colors, and no heavy, dark furniture. I wanted my design to have quaintness but also some finer pieces that looked as though they had been handed down in the family. Or in my mind I imagined the homeowners going to antique shops searching for special pieces and painting or refinishing some shabbier items they found. The sitting room is by far the "fanciest" in this home and I remain torn about my choices in that room. I felt the sofa should have been something more comfy. Just a classic sofa style with a linen slip cover over it and some lovely cushions. I had a sofa that sort of fit that description but the color choices just wouldn't work. It is after all the room that would most often be used to entertain, so perhaps it's okay. As for the design of the home and the exterior, I researched many photos on Google and read some design blogs and it seemed all the homes shared windows with shutters and open windows. And this seems genuine if you're in French countryside that is nearer the Mediterranean. You would want shutters to block out heat but open windows and double doors to allow a breeze when you could get it. The biggest struggle was finding the right windows and I don't know that I was completely satisfied with what I chose but I reached a point where I just had to move forward or I wasn't going to be able to enter as I'm going on vacation this week and won't be back until Nov 1st. Also, this particular home is not outfitted with many electronics or modern appliances. This is a country home and these homeowners are very busy tending their sunflowers and working in the barn on their wood crafts and floral designs. They have one small TV and a radio in the sitting room but no computers or gaming devices. It felt more authentic to avoid them.

ENTRY DETAILS: This beachfront house has decks and porches on three sides. The roof deck provides plenty of extra space for entertaining or just to hang out as a family. The loft can be converted into a fourth bedroom if needed. The house can also be used as a rental instead of a family home. Alexander and Lana Goth rent out the front bedroom for a little extra inicome and to share the beauty of Sulani with tourists.
Since my last Sulani build veered more toward a modern style, I wanted to try something a bit more traditional. Envisioning a simple, laid-back lifestyle for the inhabitants, I went easy on the electronics and decor. First time I've ever done beach landscaping, so sorry if it's not very good.

Style- Storybrook
ENTRY DETAILS: This lovely little storybrook home is a one story home with a basement. This home is modest, but has plenty of room for an older couple to live peacefully. There is plenty of outdoor space, with beautifully landscaped yards to putter around in. This little peace of paradise in the woods would certainly be attractive to many. Large vaulted ceilings throughout most of the first level, making the home seem larger than it is. A modest kitchen, and bathroom for this home. Both bedrooms are fairly spacious, with plenty of room to stretch out if necessary. The basement is mostly unfinished, with food storage, a furnace room, and some workspace to work on hobbies.

ENTRY DETAILS: Since this is the fall challenge, I choose the industrial style, because I love it and I can easily imagine it in fall colors. However, this time I didn’t want to build it in the usual urban environment, I imagined a lot of autumn trees around the house. It became a two-storey, 2-bedroom, 3-bathroom house surrounded by a small pond. There are also terraces and a barbecue area. The living room is quite large, here I tried the industrial style with red color. The truth is, I would love to live here too.

ENTRY DETAILS: I really tried to challenge myself with this one. I don't think that I have ever made a Mid Century Modern home before so I hope that I got the design concept correct. I used all the furniture that was given in the sample room throughout the house except the side table. In keeping with the fall theme I used browns, yellows, oranges and greens to decorate the house. I tried to make it look like the home was picked right out of the mid 1900's, leaving out a big screen TV and a computer. The house is designed for a family with three children, one of which is a toddler and the home is also pet friendly.
