#BnS105 - Life After Life
The deadline for this challenge is 24th October 2018
You had sent Karl home early to beat the storm. You didn’t want him out in that, but you had some loose ends to clean up - or rather, you had models and sketches and a mess to clean up! You looked back over your design ideas and smile. You’ve always loved making a difference in people’s lives, the look on their faces when they see it… makes all the headaches worth it!
The wind was shaking the windows when you finally decided it was time to head home yourself. You gathered your things and turned out the lights, pulling your coat tight around you as you stepped outside and turned to lock up.
When you turned back around, you nearly jumped out of your skin! There was a figure looming over you in the darkness, seemingly materialized out of the fog.
“Good evening,” he says, voice smooth as velvet.
“G-good evening,” you manage to get out.
“I have not come at a bad time, have I?” the gentleman says.
“Bad time? Oh… no no, I was-” well you were just locking up to go home but does that really constitute ‘bad time’?
“I am glad. I apologize I could not have been here sooner.”
Well, you suppose staying a little later wouldn’t hurt, and you’d rather not stand out here so you unlock the door and escape from the elements. Oddly, your visitor does not follow you in.
“Please, do come in,” you say.
He smiles broadly as he steps inside. You aren’t entirely sure but it seems like his teeth are just a little… longer than average.
Shaking off your coat, you hang it back up and turn the lights on again. Now that you’re able to get a better look at your guest he seems far less looming than outside. You note the piercing eyes, the impeccable if somewhat outdated dress. He does not seem the least beaten by the storm, unlike yourself you’re sure.
“Won’t you sit down?” you ask, motioning to the conference table.
“Thank you,” he says, taking a seat. You can’t quite place the accent, but it seems familiar.
“Now, what can I do for you, Mr…?”
“Ah, you may call me Seth.”
“Well, Mr. Seth, what can I do for you?”
“I am in need of a new residence,” he says. “My current will soon be- ah- uninhabitable. So I will need it quickly, by the end of the month and no later.”
“Of course, we often work on a tight schedule,” you say, though find his choice of words very odd.
“Good, I appreciate that,” he says. “But I require very particular details in my residence.”
“That shouldn’t be a problem,” you assure him, slipping easily back into your professional mode. “We have catered to a wide variety of needs.”
“Then what I am after is a subterranean residence, entirely below ground except for what must necessarily be above to access it.”
“Oh, that’s very do-able,” you say. “We can add skylights or-”
“No!”
He cuts you off so forcefully you jump slightly in your seat.
“I apologize,” he quickly adds. “I just- no skylights. I, uh, value my privacy. I do not wish anyone to be able to see inside. Under any circumstances. No skylights, window wells, nothing. Please.”
“Very well,” you say. “There are plenty of lighting options.”
He relaxes again.
“I value my privacy, so a good fence around the property is a must. But I will need space for entertaining,” he says. “I host events every month.”
“Oh?” That seems interesting. “What kind of events?”
“Exclusive events. Very exclusive.”
“No, I mean…football parties, book club, art shows-”
“Yes! Art, that’s it,” he says, as if taking a conveniently offered excuse and running with it. “Very exclusive art showings. With necar. There will need to be a bar.”
“Okay.” You write that down but this is a very odd client! “And beyond that, is it just you? Just one bedroom or…?”
“Yes, only me. The usual parts of a house, yes. All that. But no mirrors!”
“No mirrors.” You jot down a few more notes. “Well, I think the only thing left is the cost-”
“Here is your payment,” he says, handing you a cashier’s check for… a great deal more than you were about to tell him you needed. You do not ask any questions.
“Well Mr. Seth, I think you’ll be very happy with your new place.”
“I hope so,” he says as he stands up. “After all, just ‘cause I’m dead doesn’t mean I can’t have a life!”
He laughs.
You laugh. Then the words sink in and you stop, but suddenly notice he is no longer standing there. Or, anywhere. You look back at the cashier’s check in your hand and shrug. Well, you’ve done weirder.
THE BRIEF
Your budget for this challenge is §150,000.
Design an entirely subterranean home except what must be above ground for access.
No natural lighting of any kind.
One bedroom minimum.
All the usual residential spaces.
Room for entertaining an exclusive group of people.
No mirrors
Room Challenge:
Create Mr. Seth's room for entertaining, again, no mirrors or windows please, remember this is subterranean.

Sim Challenge:
Make Mr Seth and show him entertaining his guests in his new space. He is a bit of a snob, but other than that the rest of his traits are up to you. Remember to let us know what other traits you chose for him, along with his aspiration and your reasonings.

ENTRY DETAILS: Welcome to Forgotten Hollow - It's a place some people would find dark and gloomy. However, I think you'll love it. We found you a lot with a cute little house that we changed to fit you. We built you a cellar with all the rooms you need. Since you're such an artsy guy, we included a lot of art pieces throughout the house. The above ground level is not quite window free, but we built double walls for you, so no one will be able to look in, and you will not be able to look outside. We felt this was the best decision for the overall aesthetic of the exterior of the house. We made you an open plan kitchen, dining and living area - perfect to host guests! I kept the colors neutral and dark, which I matched with sleek furniture. It's very masculine without feeling like a bachelor pad. Hope you enjoy it!

Welcome to the Pettigrew Family Cemetery! It may seem a little dark or spooky at first, but it IS a cemetery! No, the gate around the property is to keep unwanted visitors out, I assure you. And we have been invited! Yes, it is a mausoleum, you are right. But, trust me, there is more to see here than just what is on the surface! No, come back! Take my hand if you feel frightened. It really is a beautiful place inside! Just through this door… Umm, well…yes, there are bodies in those coffins. But we are going to the hidden stairs behind the coffins. Don’t lose your nerve now! This is definitely worth a look! This is a two bedroom home with two full baths and two half baths! It is truly unique, and I am proud to say I designed it! Well, yes, the bathrooms are around this corner... No, go ahead, I can wait.

ENTRY DETAILS: This is just a wooded lot, right? It doesn’t look like anyone even owns it…unless you venture to the heart of the woods, find a door, and dare to take the dark stair into the underground. That’s how some folks prefer it. This natural form of fencing, paired with an already-dark location in Forgotten Hollow, make the Afterlife Abode the ultimate private residence.
This home is two levels underground, featuring two full bathrooms and one bedroom, with an additional sitting room that doubles as a guest bedroom. Natural fencing in the form of strategically-placed vegetation, rocks, and props create psychological deterrents as effective - or more effective - than a rigid traditional fence. The access door intentionally faces the rear of the lot and is obscured from view to add an additional layer of privacy. #NoCC #MOO

ENTRY DETAILS: Seth's new home was once a root cellar beneath one of the first homes to be built on Windenberg Island. The original house has burned down long since, leaving only overgrown ruins. The original cellar has been updated and divided into rooms to make a comfortable home for one. It has electricity, plumbing, and climate control. The fence surrounding the property is new, but incorporates original stones. Much of the lot was left wild to offer a second layer of privacy, and the original family graveyard also stayed at Seth's request.

ENTRY DETAILS: "Being old and dead doesn't mean you can't love new and vibrant." This Art Deco home holds some of Seth's favourite pieces. The large entry has an open stairwell down to the main living area where the main part of Seth's collection is on view. Ranging from classic and modern art pieces through to antiques and oddities, the Gallery is also the main entertaining area with piano and Globe Bar. On one side of the Gallery is the Kitchen and Dining and on the other side a large bathroom and stairs leading down to the Bedroom. The bedroom has been decorated to appeal to Seth's slightly more eccentric nature as well as his mysterious side. On the entry level a back door leads out to a romantic garden just right for a moonlight stroll.

Dear Mr. Seth, we found you the perfect spot for your privacy. It’s in the middle of nowhere, on an island in Windenburg. The lot is surrounded by trees and some houses, no roads, though. We built in some underground ancient ruins and tried to keep some of the historic flavor. The first basement level has a couple of pools in the outside, and inside you’ll find the entertainment room desired with the bar and other amenities. A secret entrance will conduct you to the second level, your private quarters, with a kitchen-dinning, a public bathroom, a laundry room and a den with a secret crypt. Another door leads to your master bedroom, with a living, a private bath and another secret crypt for your special guests.

ENTRY DETAILS: I Thought Mr. Seth would be more modern and so I tried to make his home as such. The Nocturnal MoonStone is a 2bd 1b in case he has a friend sleep over but second bedroom is a casket. Plenty of activities.

ENTRY DETAILS: Mr. Seth's home was build to fit in with the surroundings of Forgotten Hollow. Old world styling was mixed with modern reliability. The property is enclosed with strong stone fencings that incorporate the chimneys for the subterranean home beneath this entry tower. Landscaping costs were kept very low since Mr. Seth insisted there was no point in adding more above ground than was necessary. Simple, well made and utilatarian is the theme for Mr. Seth's home.

ENTRY DETAILS: What vampire in their right mind would choose to live in the middle of the desert? It's hot during the day, biting at night, and if you catch yourself in a mirage, you might mistake a cactus for a human and wind up with an unfortunate visit to the ER. But, on the other hand, it's not the first place a hunter would think to look for vampire-related activity, so you might be safer here than you think. Combine that with an old ugly bunker that serves only as an eyesore to the people of Oasis Springs, and you've got yourself an adequate lair for all your nocturnal needs.

ENTRY DETAILS: A secluded spot in Brindleton Bay seemed the perfect place to house Mr Seth’s unusual request for an entirely subterranean home. For a man who likes his privacy, there’s certainly plenty of it. A good sturdy fence surrounds the property and of course no windows. The entertaining space is a marvel, with mood lighting and plenty of space to enjoy art and drink. A little extra surprise awaits… a hidden crypt as he did say he was dead after all! (That’s not something you want to advertise really!)

ENTRY DETAILS: I wanted a luxurious feel with both modern and traditional styles. I wanted to keep it mainly neutral so that it was nice and bright throughout. I also added in an 'indoor outdoor' room, giving the feel of a garden whilst being inside. Keeping it neutral also means you get the wow factor when entering the exclusive room for entertaining, which is furnished with deep reds and cream furniture.

ENTRY DETAILS: "Mr. Seth" is really Seth Andrew Pettigrew. He is eccentric, rich, and has some odd hobbies! He is a vampire, so don't expect him to visit during the day. He wants to be the leader of the pack in popularity. He is also a snob, an insider, and a music lover! When he said he hosted art events, he really meant it...but art that you can relate to, maybe not so much! His piercing green eyes and smooth, deep voice make Seth memorable even before you get to know him! And you should hear him play the piano!

“That shouldn’t be a problem,” you assure him, slipping easily back into your professional mode. “We have catered to a wide variety of needs.”
“Then what I am after is a subterranean residence, entirely below ground except for what must necessarily be above to access it.”
“Oh, that’s very do-able,” you say. “We can add skylights or-”
“No!”
He cuts you off so forcefully you jump slightly in your seat.
“I apologize,” he quickly adds. “I just- no skylights. I, uh, value my privacy. I do not wish anyone to be able to see inside. Under any circumstances. No skylights, window wells, nothing. Please.”
“Very well,” you say. “There are plenty of lighting options.”
He relaxes again.
“I value my privacy, so a good fence around the property is a must. But I will need space for entertaining,” he says. “I host events every month.”
“Oh?” That seems interesting. “What kind of events?”
“Exclusive events. Very exclusive.”
“No, I mean…football parties, book club, art shows-”
“Yes! Art, that’s it,” he says, as if taking a conveniently offered excuse and running with it. “Very exclusive art showings. With necar. There will need to be a bar.”
“Okay.” You write that down but this is a very odd client! “And beyond that, is it just you? Just one bedroom or…?”
“Yes, only me. The usual parts of a house, yes. All that. But no mirrors!”
“No mirrors.” You jot down a few more notes. “Well, I think the only thing left is the cost-”
“Here is your payment,” he says, handing you a cashier’s check for… a great deal more than you were about to tell him you needed. You do not ask any questions.
“Well Mr. Seth, I think you’ll be very happy with your new place.”
“I hope so,” he says as he stands up. “After all, just ‘cause I’m dead doesn’t mean I can’t have a life!”
He laughs.
You laugh. Then the words sink in and you stop, but suddenly notice he is no longer standing there. Or, anywhere. You look back at the cashier’s check in your hand and shrug. Well, you’ve done weirder.

ENTRY DETAILS: Welcome to Forgotten Hollow - It's a place some people would find dark and gloomy. However, I think you'll love it. We found you a lot with a cute little house that we changed to fit you. We built you a cellar with all the rooms you need. Since you're such an artsy guy, we included a lot of art pieces throughout the house. The above ground level is not quite window free, but we built double walls for you, so no one will be able to look in, and you will not be able to look outside. We felt this was the best decision for the overall aesthetic of the exterior of the house. We made you an open plan kitchen, dining and living area - perfect to host guests! I kept the colors neutral and dark, which I matched with sleek furniture. It's very masculine without feeling like a bachelor pad. Hope you enjoy it!

Welcome to the Pettigrew Family Cemetery! It may seem a little dark or spooky at first, but it IS a cemetery! No, the gate around the property is to keep unwanted visitors out, I assure you. And we have been invited! Yes, it is a mausoleum, you are right. But, trust me, there is more to see here than just what is on the surface! No, come back! Take my hand if you feel frightened. It really is a beautiful place inside! Just through this door… Umm, well…yes, there are bodies in those coffins. But we are going to the hidden stairs behind the coffins. Don’t lose your nerve now! This is definitely worth a look! This is a two bedroom home with two full baths and two half baths! It is truly unique, and I am proud to say I designed it! It doesn’t look like anyone even owns it…unless you venture to the heart of the woods, find a door, and dare to take the dark stair into the underground. That’s how some folks prefer it. This natural form of fencing, paired with an already-dark location in Forgotten Hollow, make the Afterlife Abode the ultimate private residence.
This home is two levels underground, featuring two full bathrooms and one bedroom, with an additional sitting room that doubles as a guest bedroom. Natural fencing in the form of strategically-placed vegetation, rocks, and props create psychological deterrents as effective - or more effective - than a rigid traditional fence. ENTRY DETAILS: Seth's new home was once a root cellar beneath one of the first homes to be built on Windenberg Island. The original house has burned down long since, leaving only overgrown ruins. The original cellar has been updated and divided into rooms to make a comfortable home for one. It has electricity, plumbing, and climate control. The fence surrounding the property is new, but incorporates original stones. Much of the lot was left wild to offer a second layer of privacy, and the original family graveyard also stayed at Seth's request.

ENTRY DETAILS: "Being old and dead doesn't mean you can't love new and vibrant." This Art Deco home holds some of Seth's favourite pieces. The large entry has an open stairwell down to the main living area where the main part of Seth's collection is on view. Ranging from classic and modern art pieces through to antiques and oddities, the Gallery is also the main entertaining area with piano and Globe Bar. On one side of the Gallery is the Kitchen and Dining and on the other side a large bathroom and stairs leading down to the Bedroom. The bedroom has been decorated to appeal to Seth's slightly more eccentric nature as well as his mysterious side. On the entry level a back door leads out to a romantic garden just right for a moonlight stroll.

Dear Mr. Seth, we found you the perfect spot for your privacy. It’s in the middle of nowhere, on an island in Windenburg. The lot is surrounded by trees and some houses, no roads, though. We built in some underground ancient ruins and tried to keep some of the historic flavor. The first basement level has a couple of pools in the outside, and inside you’ll find the entertainment room desired with the bar and other amenities. A secret entrance will conduct you to the second level, your private quarters, with a kitchen-dinning, a public bathroom, a laundry room and a den with a secret crypt. Another door leads to your master bedroom, with a living, a private bath and another secret crypt for your special guests.

The property is enclosed with strong stone fencings that incorporate the chimneys for the subterranean home beneath this entry tower. Landscaping costs were kept very low since Mr. Seth insisted there was no point in adding more above ground than was necessary. Simple, well made and utilatarian is the theme for Mr. Seth's home.

ENTRY DETAILS: What vampire in their right mind would choose to live in the middle of the desert? It's hot during the day, biting at night, and if you catch yourself in a mirage, you might mistake a cactus for a human and wind up with an unfortunate visit to the ER. But, on the other hand, it's not the first place a hunter would think to look for vampire-related activity, so you might be safer here than you think. Combine that with an old ugly bunker that serves only as an eyesore to the people of Oasis Springs, and you've got yourself an adequate lair for all your nocturnal needs.

For a man who likes his privacy, there’s certainly plenty of it. A good sturdy fence surrounds the property and of course no windows. The entertaining space is a marvel, with mood lighting and plenty of space to enjoy art and drink. A little extra surprise awaits… a hidden crypt as he did say he was dead after all! (That’s not something you want to advertise really!)

ENTRY DETAILS: I wanted a luxurious feel with both modern and traditional styles. I wanted to keep it mainly neutral so that it was nice and bright throughout. I also added in an 'indoor outdoor' room, giving the feel of a garden whilst being inside. Keeping it neutral also means you get the wow factor when entering the exclusive room for entertaining, which is furnished with deep reds and cream furniture.

ENTRY DETAILS: "Mr. Seth" is really Seth Andrew Pettigrew. He is eccentric, rich, and has some odd hobbies! He is a vampire, so don't expect him to visit during the day. He wants to be the leader of the pack in popularity. He is also a snob, an insider, and a music lover! When he said he hosted art events, he really meant it...but art that you can relate to, maybe not so much! His piercing green eyes and smooth, deep voice make Seth memorable even before you get to know him! And you should hear him play the piano!
