#BnS119 - For The Old Gold And Green

You lean back in your chair, trying to remember what it was like to be a college student and what you would have wanted. It seems like so long ago, or maybe it’s just so much has happened since then. You’ve grown, you’ve changed, no matter how much you’d like to think you haven’t. Sure, you remember being there, but you just can’t quite imagine yourself back in that old dorm again.
You buzz the intercom. Karl? Do you have a minute?”
“Of course!” he replies, and is in your office a few moments later with notebook and pencil at the ready.
“You went to college,” you say as he takes a seat. It isn’t really a question, more to set the context.
“Well, the community college, yes,” he replies.
You hum thoughtfully, then ask, “So you weren’t in a dorm?”
“No, I had a small apartment with a couple of friends.”
“Well, I’ve been asked to design a new dormitory building for Sim U. But they want something new and fresh for their incoming students. I’ve been trying to remember what it was like living in one. I think it’s just been too long.”
“Well, my niece is a freshman at university this year,” he offers.
“Oh?”
“Yep! The Fighting Gnomes. Go Gold and Green!” he cheers with a laugh, clearly very involved in his niece’s school life.
That’s not too far away, you could drive there and back in a day.
“Karl, I think we need to take a road trip! How would your niece feel if we crashed her place for an afternoon and got some input from the students? I’d like some insight into what their needs are in a dorm space.”
He pulls out his cell phone and hits the speed dial. “I’ll ask her!”
THE BRIEF
Budget: 155,000
Design a dormitory for 8 students with the following requirements:
8 single-occupancy rooms
Shared lavs/baths
Shared kitchen and dining hall
Shared common room
Space for quiet study
Yard space for outdoor activities
The design should reflect a fresh new look for the modern student.
You can decide whether your dorm is unisex or mixed.
Sim Challenge
Create Karl’s niece and at least 3 of her dorm mates, and have them inspect the new building for young-adult approval!
Room Challenge
Create a single occupancy dorm room of no more than 15 squares in size (squares can be in any configuration).

Beautiful landscaping leads to the entrances for the dorm. on the bottom left holds the dining hall and computer lab, with a comfortable sitting area. The bottom right contains two TV rooms for students.. There is a study table, and game tables in this area. Upstairs contains the dorm rooms for students. Girls right, boys left. Large spacious bathrooms, and laundries on each side.

ENTRY DETAILS: The Eco Dorm (aka The bumpy Dorm, due to the bumpy texture of the outside) has recycled plastic siding, solar panels on the roof and surprisingly for a dorm, hardwood floors that came from the trees that had to be cut down to make the building. It is the first week of school so some of the students have moved in and decorated, while other dorms are still empty. One of the 3 1/2 baths has a fire exit to be up to code, but the door has a lock so no one can come in from the outside. The first floor has a sitting and tv area with a private study room and study/reading nooks. The Green and Yellow kitchen has lots of space to make meals, and more than enough tables and chairs for inviting friends other for a meal. Outside has some eating areas, a bbq, chess table and lots of shaded area to sit and read a book outside. I spend the extra money and went with the unbreakable toilets,showers and fridge so the school doesn't have worry about fixing things all the time. There is a laundry room in the basement.
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: Yes, I had a hard time with the layout and I feel like this build is a Plain Jane

ENTRY DETAILS: Seeing that this is a New Build I figured I wouldn't decorate it, since a dorm would come like this in real life. I used the grey bedding because a dorm would come with just a mattress and grey blended in. I did put some decorated one in the slide show from the Dorm build so you can see how it could look once Sims' moved in.

ENTRY DETAILS: My take on a dorm for the modern student. Tried to make a sleek looking home, with a lot of space to hang. Kept the dorm itself pretty simple, no crazy colors. However some of the bedrooms are a little colorful. The bedrooms are big and all have a double bed, there are several balcony's and a large garden with bar, hot tub, pool, lounge area, bbq and basketbal court. The basement is a zen garden and study.

ENTRY DETAILS: The Eco Dorm (aka The bumpy Dorm, due to the bumpy texture of the outside) has recycled plastic siding, solar panels on the roof and surprisingly for a dorm, hardwood floors that came from the trees that had to be cut down to make the building. It is the first week of school so some of the students have moved in and decorated, while other dorms are still empty. One of the 3 1/2 baths has a fire exit to be up to code, but the door has a lock so no one can come in from the outside. The first floor has a sitting and tv area with a private study room and study/reading nooks. The Green and Yellow kitchen has lots of space to make meals, and more than enough tables and chairs for inviting friends other for a meal. Outside has some eating areas, a bbq, chess table and lots of shaded area to sit and read a book outside. I spend the extra money and went with the unbreakable toilets,showers and fridge so the school doesn't have worry about fixing things all the time. There is a laundry room in the basement.

ENTRY DETAILS: Seeing that this is a New Build I figured I wouldn't decorate it, since a dorm would come like this in real life. I used the grey bedding because a dorm would come with just a mattress and grey blended in. I did put some decorated one in the slide show from the Dorm build so you can see how it could look once Sims' moved in.

ENTRY DETAILS: My take on a dorm for the modern student. Tried to make a sleek looking home, with a lot of space to hang. Kept the dorm itself pretty simple, no crazy colors. However some of the bedrooms are a little colorful. The bedrooms are big and all have a double bed, there are several balcony's and a large garden with bar, hot tub, pool, lounge area, bbq and basketbal court. The basement is a zen garden and study.
