It seems you need to move the painting in Build Mode for the computer to recognize its worth and add it to your property value, as well as count it toward the "25 paintings" goal of that milestone.
The paintings and artwork recognition thing is rather finicky. Hope it doesn't give you too much trouble!
And with regard to @MissTrips, I think it's fair to say she Plays Like A Champion :D.
