On my second successful run through with Ixion, (third run through overall since Nathan died in a fire) I saved my pennies up to $350K total, then spent all of it down to the smallest unit in one sitting to instantly complete Mansion Baron all at once. I was on a 30X40 lot so I had lots of room to put junk.
Also I did the same as @piperbird1 and counted by the weeks, up until the final week when I knew I was going to finish.
An interesting way to play would be to have your sim sleep in a tent the whole time, and have only outdoor furniture! Bet if you used a tent outside you could probably build a rocket and get some high-value collectibles from space.
Does going to space count as staying in your 8x8? ;P
