I like making starter homes, and my gallery is full of them! Here's my list of my most recommended starters:
Dark Brick -17,382; 2 bed, 1 bath - specifically built this one for Newcrest.
Mint Garden - 14,186; 1 bed, 1 bath - comes with a lovely garden in front
Tadaima, I'm Home - 11,382; 2 bed, 1 bath - affordable Japanese-style starter
Barn Starter - 18,660; 1 bed, 1 bath - basically a barn converted into a house
Storage Unit 304 - 17,983; 1 bed, 1 bath - the perfect starter for an aspiring criminal
Quaint Starter - 9,857; 1 bed, 1 bath - one of the cheapest starters I ever made; it even got featured as an example on Carl's Sims Gallery guide.
