Interlude
The Reeds had been so busy, that the first week of December had passed almost without their noticing. To them it had simply been Week 3 of Peggy’s quest.
The night before St. Nikolaus, however, they finally had come around to decorating the house and everyone’s boots stood outside, ready to get filled with chocolates, oranges and plasma fruit.

Reaching into their boots, the children found the expected chocolates, nuts, apples and oranges, but also exotic fruit: A quill fruit for Peggy and a glow orb for Ricky.

As a half-alien, Peggy instinctively knew how to safely eat the quill fruit and moments later her metabolism had already reacted by turning purple.

The 6th of December was a Tuesday, and therefore a regular school day, but Daniel quickly mailed excuses for Peggy and Ricky and Gavin took a day off. After everything they had went through lately, the Reeds felt they deserved it.

The morning was spent baking a ginormous christstollen together, that they then buttered, covered in powdered sugar and wrapped up, so that it could “ripen” till Christmas.
Ricky: “I thought the powdered sugar was for the taste! So it’s to make it last longer?”
Daniel: “Everything we put into a stollen is to make it last longer.”
Peggy: “So if we leave out all of the extras, we could eat it at once?”
Gavin: “In theory, yes, but you wouldn’t want to eat what’s left. You’re really better off waiting for Christmas.”
Until then the store bought variant would have to do:
