Christmas Challenge - Week 2 -"Playing With Paint" Municipal Muses Fundraiser

It was already Saturday, and Elfie was excited to head to Municipal Muses for the 'Playing With Paint' Fundraiser. He had invited several of his friends, and hoped they would get a good turn-out. When he got there, Municipal Muses had been transformed for Winterfest and was nicely decorated. On the main level, there was a piano and bar set-up outside, and there was a sign leading upstairs to the event,

Elfie quickly went to the second floor and saw several easels set up for the art session. He saw Brent Hecking making some last minute adjustments, and Elfie went to speak with him.

Brent: "Elfie! You're here!" he said and engulfed him in a hug. He then spread his hands wide motioning to the art session area,"Well, what do you think?"

Elfie said it looked really good and couldn't wait for it to start. Brent said that the event would run from 8AM until 2AM to allow patrons ample opportunity to bid in the silent auction, and he hoped that each participant would paint at least 5 paintings each.

At promptly 8AM, Elfie looked at the blank canvas before him. They were all supposed to paint playful paintings, and Elfie had a good idea of what he wanted to paint. And so it began...

Shortly afterwards, the first of his friends arrived. Sofia Bjergsen and Duane Talla grabbed a free easel and started painting right away.

Greta Laurent was next to arrive, and Duane was quick to come over and start chatting with her. Duane also took a selfie...to...um...you know...promote the fundraiser event on his simstagram account. Yeah sure, Duane...more like showing off your muscles to Greta.

Greta Laurent was the most experienced painter of the group, and often came over to the other club members to give them some pointers. She admired Elfie's painting and thought he was doing a great job.

When a painting was completed, Brent came over and carefully carried the paintings to the "Silent Auction" area.

Soon, there were patrons watching the teens paint and chatting with them about the high school art program. Jeb Harris was busy painting a figure painting, but took time to chat with Travis Scott.

Cassandra Goth and Iggy Pancakes arrived a bit later for the event, and Elfie and his friends continued to paint throughout the day.

Pretty soon, it was getting dark, but there were still a lot of patrons in Municipal Muses. Several had gone to the bar area to have a drink and listen to the pianist who had been hired for the occasion.

Finally, Elfie had finished his 5 paintings and Brent helped him group them together.

The Silent Auction had started, and already sims were looking intently at several of Elfie's paintings. But...would they buy a painting and support the Winterfest Festival?

Oh yes they would! Because within minutes, two of the Choo-Choo Paintings were sold. The first painting sold for $1,350 simoleons to a lovely sim lady.

And the second was sold to an anonymous buyer who phoned in their bid to Brent. The anonymous buyer paid $1,750 simoleons for the painting.

Only 2 of Elfie's paintings were left to sell. But the time was ticking away, and the Silent Auction would end soon.

A sim wearing blue eye shadow, had been up and down the stairs several times admiring several paintings. She seemed unable to make up her mind on what painting to purchase. There were some really good paintings that his friends had painted, which were far better than Elfie's, but, she finally made a decision and decided to purchase one of Elfie's paintings for $1,532 simoleons.

It was a half-hour until closing and suddenly all these sims showed up. Must be the last minute bidding wars...or the bar had closed.

Several sims were looking at Elfie's last painting and he could tell that any moment, someone was going to buy it. He even saw Hector Laurent in the crowd. His last Choo-Choo Painting. Come on...if ever there was a time to think about the Little Engine that Could was now. Please...someone buy the painting.

And then Elfie saw Lily Feng make a beeline right towards Elfie's painting. And bingo! Lily Feng was quicker than everyone else, and bought the last painting for $1,259 simoleons.

And just in time, too, as the "Playing With Paint" fundraiser was now over.

After putting away the easels, Brent excused himself and went to tally up the sales and came back and sat with Elfie.

Brent: "Elfie, I can't believe how successful this fundraiser was", he said smiling, "And I am happy to give you this donation cheque for $7,071 simoleons towards the Winterfest Festival."

Elfie looked at Brent and thanked him, and couldn't believe what Brent had just told him.

Brent: "In fact, my boss is thinking of having this as an annual event. We're even going to put up a permanent display of some of the paintings that weren't sold to reinforce our dedication to the community and to encourage young artists. You and your friends did a great job, Elfie. Congratulations!"

Notes:

For purposes of the challenge, Brent was temporarily moved in with Elfie, so that he would be prominent in Municipal Muses to oversee the event, and also to "look after" the "silent auction". Elfie also created a club, and used the club interaction to invite his teen friends over and for them to paint paintings. He had purchased the playful club perk and he also put out some MySims statues and "enabled emotion" to get the playful mood vibe.

Elfie started with no painting skill.

Only Elfie's paintings were in the actual "silent auction". The Street Art Gallery was used as the "silent auction" to display the 5 playful paintings that Elfie painted. There was a 300% mark-up and Elfie did the selling. The other paintings that were painted by the club members were displayed on the walls in the same area, but were not for sale. Since I did not control the other club members, I didn't know what they would paint.

Elfie painted and sold 5 playful paintings for a total of $7,071 simoleons. (5 points).

And with all the chatting that Elfie did, he also maxed his charisma skill.

Ah, things are coming together nicely in Willow Creek! It's so good to see the community come together like this, everyone contributing according to their area of expertise, and now the teens, too, got rallied. (Of course we're only halfway through and I know there'll be complications, but still.)

Week 4

Week 4 of the Christmas Challenge requires the protagonist to make a number of friends, good friends and friends with specific traits/careers.
Normally “playing” week 4 boils down to counting the friends the main sim already has made in the previous three weeks, little to no actual gameplay required anymore. But this time the game threw me not only a curveball, but a giant dung beetle pill. (And it was amazing!)

Sigstein: “Sure can. But why is the DPD here? I don’t think we’ve met, Officer… Mack, was it?”

Alexander: “Yeah, I knew my luck in this regard would run out one day. The wife and sister in law spoke of you…”

Connor: “Only badly, I hope!”

Alexander: “What is this? Looks like the sensor module of a civilian surveillance drone.”

Peggy: “That’s what it is! There’s footage of the vampire lady instructing the workers at the Chocolate Museum, but she speaks in…”

Sigstein: “…High Omiscan! And not only that, that’s as close to an accent-free Omiscan I’ve ever heard. It’s especially noticeable because the conversation partner is a Selvadoradan native speaker, who struggles with the Omiscan.”

Alexander: “What does she say?”

Sigstein: “That she has spiked the cocoa with a chemical that mimics the Influence Emotions vampire power. In the audio she wants to change up the SAD and ANGRY flavor to a DAZED one.”

Peggy: “So that’s how she got all of Newcrest under her power! We all drank the cocoa and ate the chocolates!”

Alexander: “Thank you, Mr. Connor, that was helpful. We know now that Mrs. Diaz y Allende is behind all of this, and we can safely assume that she did it to bully Gavin into joining the vampire conspiracy. Now all we need is a confession.”

Sigstein: “A confession from a vampire, who has survived for at least seven hundred years, because the 14th century was the latest date at which a person could have grown up with High Omiscan as their first language? Good luck, kids!”

Alexander: “Maybe we should start with asking other employees first.”

According to the challenge rules, sims with the EVIL, MEAN and GLOOMY trait, as well as criminals, belong to the shadow group that wants to prevent the Snowflake Gala. I imagine the inner circle rather small, so most of the sims that work for Coco are not aware what they are taking part in. Like Elsa Bjergsen here:

Elsa: “Wait, what? The Chocolate Museum is run by an ancient vampire that wants to suck the life out of Newcrest?”

Peggy: “Sort of.”

Elsa: “Well, yes or no? Because that’s my semester break job you’re threatening there, kid! I had planned to work as a waitress at the Chocolate Museum! Can’t you wait with your investigation until spring?”

Peggy: “But by then more people might fall into swimming pools or forget where they live!”

Elsa: “Cool, gene pool purged of idiots that are too thick to watch their steps.”

Peggy: “You can’t mean that!”

In the next step I sent Peggy’s family, Sigstein and Alexander to the Chocolate Museum to see what might happen. While I was still in the process of looking around who else was there and switching sims into their correct outfits… the game crashed. I got set back to the moment before leaving home, with everything that had happened at the restaurant deleted from my sims’ memory.

In the context of the story that means the vampires at the restaurant ambushed and memory-wiped Peggy & Co. They made sure to also destroy the video.

The Snowflake Gala is saved, but Coco’s involvement is gone from the sims' minds.

The Reed family took a day trip to Alpine valley next.

It was Peggy’s first time on the big slope.

Daniel, Gavin and Ricky positioned themselves at the base and made sure to document Peggy’s arrival. The girl looked a bit green around the nose and held her skiing sticks in a tight grab that betrayed her tenseness, but unlike many adults she didn’t fall.

Gloomy Townie: “Hey, I remember you! You are the kid who came with the cops. You talked us all into quitting our jobs at the Chocolate Museum.”

Peggy: “What are you talking about? You must mistake me for somebody else. I’m sure we never even met.”

Gloomy Townie (internally): Wow. Kid denies even knowing me? That Mrs. Diaz y Allende must be real bad news. Her restaurant probably is a money laundering establishment.

And so, despite Peggy having her memory stolen by the vampires, the people whose lives she had affected retained the vague notion of the Chocolate Museum’s owner being involved in unsavory practices, even though nobody knew what exactly her game was.

Christmas Challenge - Week 2 -"Blue Yule Singing Competition" The Blue Velvet Fundraiser

Elfie arrived at the library in the afternoon and was happy to see Darsh there. He took out the cheque that Brent had given him last night and handed it to Darsh.

Elfie: "Darsh, the "Playing With Paint" fundraiser was so much fun. I am so happy that they had a good turn-out. Sims really seem to be getting more cheerful lately."

Darsh took the cheque and congratulated Elfie on a job well done.

Darsh: "I've been talking to the local businesses, and I have a few other fundraisers lined up. Tonight, there is the "Blue Yule Singing Competition" at The Blue Velvet. The winner will receive a trophy and the bar proceeds from the night will be donated to the Winterfest Festival."

Elfie looked excited, "A singing competition? Oh, I love singing!"

Darsh continued, "And tomorrow, Movers and Shakers Gym is holding "Yuletide Yoga". The instructor will hold family-friendly classes that are fun and upbeat, and apparently, after one of these yoga sessions, sims will be smiling and skipping down the street. Movers and Shakers gym will donate all proceeds from the classes to the Winterfest Festival."

Elfie: "Oh, I've never done yoga before, but if it makes sims happy, count me in!"

Darsh then explained that they had a meeting with Hector Laurent, their Winterfest Festival Event Coordinator, on Tuesday to discuss hiring entertainers and advertising for the Winterfest Festival. Hector also had some other exciting opportunities to discuss with them.

Elfie spent the rest of the day in the library reading books and playing chess.

Later that night, Elfie changed into his party wear and headed to The Blue Velvet for the "Blue Yule Singing Competition". When he went inside, the place had been transformed. The piano had been moved, and in its place was a karaoke machine.

Another sim had taken the stage and was doing a warm-up song. The sim sounded pretty good and Elfie cheered him on.

The Singing Competition was set to start at 8PM, and Elfie thought that maybe he should do a warm-up song, too. So, he took to the stage and did a rousing rendition of "Jingle Bells". His vocal chords were warmed up now.

And while he was singing, a lot of sims entered the nightclub. He saw his friends over at the piano area. Jeb was playing piano and Duane was singing. They sounded really good and were drawing the crowd in.

But before Elfie had a chance to go over and greet them, there was an announcement over the loud speaker that the "Blue Yule Singing Competition" had started. The competition went until 11PM, but Elfie decided to sign up right away.

Notes:

Elfie had a club gathering and changed the club activities to sing and play an instrument. Not one of the club members sang karaoke autonomously, but they did sing at the microphone.

The "owner" of the club was just a random sim who was there. He is the pre-made townie from Discover University, Professor Jing Fen. He just happened to show up and started chatting with Elfie. And, the way Professor Fen was dressed, he looked like he could be the owner of a blues/jazz club. And so, that's who he became in my story.

Since Peggy had no more memory of her last visit to the Chocolate Museum, she was still viewing Coco as a nice person and wanted to help her. Cue the (temporarily moved in) restaurant critic the Reeds befriended when they were running the food cart!

Just what Coco “needed” now… a professional scrutinizing her manipulated chocolate delights… Great. Just great. Even mindwiped that family was such a pain in the backside! Coco understood now why Nancy wanted the Reeds on her side.

Restaurant Critic: “It’s not that I’d forget the mishap, that will influence the final score. But we don’t label a neighborhood with just a single burglary per year “crime ridden” either, so it’s only fair that I get an idea of how commonly your restaurant messes up a dish.”

So much for my “Villain gets moved by the power of forgiveness and reforms” plot. Coco apparently assumed some ulterior motive to the Reeds’ kindness and pulled Daniel into a fight.
As an experienced vampire she had a variety of high level skills. Fitness was not among those. Coco didn’t expect to need combat skills against the gentle blonde homemaker…

…who is, as we know, an Apex tier werewolf with the Alpha Wolf power and has recently maxed out his Fitness skill.

Cocochimetl had mastered all three ranks of the Dampened Emotions technique, meaning she hardly felt anything other than FINE. At the rare occasions when she panicked, she panicked rationally! Like the moment when her opponent suddenly transformed into a bipedal wolf, when the moon was neither full nor even up in the sky. But what was even more frightening was the crimson aura that surrounded Daniel during the change.

The people of this age had done what?! Okay. NOW was time to panic.

Defeated, Cocochimetl turned into a cloud and fled into the forest. Giving chase now was futile, by the time the DPD would arrive, Coco might have left the area already. Although the circumstances suggested there being more to it, technically all that had happened was a simple brawl, nothing you’d put the SWAT team into action for.

And so Detective Collins wrote a citation for Coco and left it at the host station.
(Good thing he had come to the restaurant together with Wilson!)

Cocochimetl hadn’t fled the area at all.

She had merely circled the house and then swooped through a crevice into the restaurant’s bathrooms. After relieving herself of the contents her stomach couldn’t process anymore, Coco waited for some time until her retainers signaled that the cops had left.

Christmas Challenge - Week 2 - Yuletide Yoga - Movers & Shakers Gym Fundraiser

The next day, Elfie headed to the Movers and Shakers gym early. He saw the sign at the front directing sims to the upper area. When he got there, there were yoga mats placed on the floor, and what looked like an instructor mat at the front.

As the instructor wasn't there yet, Elfie thought he would do some warm up stretches and try a pose from the sign he saw. Oh gosh! You had to be pretty limber to do that pose.

As he looked at the other poses, he remembered now that he HAD actually done yoga before. Mrs. Winter had been concerned that the elves weren't getting enough exercise and had read about a trend called "goat yoga". Well, she figured she could do the same thing with reindeer. She had held one session, but a clumsy elf had spilled some magic powder in the room, and the reindeer suddenly starting flying around. With all the hoopla of trying to get the reindeer down and elves falling on each other doing the downward facing tree pose, it was the one and only time that Mrs. Winter attempted reindeer yoga ever again.

He decided to head downstairs to find out what time the first yoga session started. Marcus Flex, a trainer at the gym, motioned him over.

Marcus: "Elfie, am I glad to see you! Our yoga instructor can't make it today, and we don't have a replacement. Do you know anything about yoga?"

Elfie: "Well, I did reindeer yoga once.."

Marcus: "Reindeer yoga? I've never heard of that...but, bro, that is fabulous! You can do yoga! How would you like to lead the Yuletide Yoga sessions today? It's family-friendly, so it would only be beginner poses..."

Elfie: "Well, um...I wouldn't say I was a pro or anything..."

Marcus: "But you have experience, and that's what counts! Plus, if someone doesn't lead those yoga sessions, we'd have to cancel and the owner wouldn't be able to donate to the Winterfest Festival. That space has been booked every day through the holidays, so there isn't any other time except today to hold the Yuletide Yoga sessions..."

Elfie looked at Marcus and thought of the Winterfest Festival. He couldn't let the residents of Willow Creek down. And with that Elfie nodded his head and said he would do it. Marcus then told Elfie that the Yuletide Yoga sessions would run from 8AM to 2AM, and Elfie only had to do five sessions.

CLASS 1:

Elfie was feeling pretty good, and went to study that sign again. Since this was going to be a beginner class, he was pretty confident he could do it. He made an announcement over the speaker that a Yuletide Yoga class would be beginning in 5 minutes and stood on the instructor's yoga mat and waited for sims to arrive.

And it looks like there are 3 sims for Elfie's first class.

Elfie leads them through a series of poses, and soon the class is over.

CLASS 2:

Marcus Flex told Elfie that he was going to take the next class. He also suggested to Elfie that he should promote the classes on simstagram to get more participants. And so, with the second class, that is exactly what Elfie does.

And it looks like it worked, Elfie might even have a full class this time of 5 sims!

All of the holiday stress just slipped away, and at the end of the class, Elfie was totally relaxed.

CLASS 3:

Elfie needed to take a bit of a break and headed to the shower.

When he returned, there was a sim standing there in a towel. Maybe the sim thought this was towel yoga.

Elfie starts his third class,. A full class again, but almost immediately a sim decides to leave! Oh no! That means he lost some simoleons. Oh gosh! He hoped that no-one else would leave.

But everything worked out, because Sofia showed up and brought her own yoga mat and joined the class. Towel guy was watching the class intently.

Elfie decided to try a new pose, which didn't go over too well with some of the sims. And thankfully, no-one was hurt and the class ended.

CLASS 4:

Elfie started the next class and even had some repeat participants. A total of 4 sims in this class.

Elfie was trying to change things up and dared to do the downward facing tree pose from that reindeer yoga class.

Um...that was a mistake, and the same thing happened...sims crashed to the floor amidst grunts and groans. Oops!

CLASS 5:

And Elfie holds his last class for the night with 2 sims.

The towel guy was still there, and Elfie didn't have to heart to tell him that maybe towel yoga wasn't being held tonight.

Just his friends, Cassandra and Jeb in this session, and he knew they could do the next pose he showed them. Yes! Crushed it!

The class was over and Elfie then had something to eat from the vending machine. He thanked his friends for coming out to support him.

After showering, Elfie headed downstairs, and Marcus told him he would give him a free personal training session. Elfie headed to the weights.

By the look on Elfie's face, I think he might want to stick to yoga.

Afterwards, Marcus told Elfie him what a wonderful job he had done instructing Yuletide Yoga, and gave him a cheque for $1,870 simoleons. Elfie didn't know if it was the effects of the yoga sessions, but he certainly felt like skipping down the street after he left.

Notes:

Elfie called a club gathering and changed the club activities to fitness and yoga. Since I wasn't controlling any of the club members, it was up to them whether or not they wanted to participate in a yoga session.

The sim in the towel was the "real" yoga instructor.

This could have been done by an easier manner, such as just selling those playful paintings to collector on the easel, but, I wanted to show community support for the Winterfest Festival, so went this route instead. But it was a lot of work! lol

I like how you used the game's crashing as a plotline in your story. When I write stories, I usually have game-driven and story-driven sequences, and sometimes a game-driven incident solves something in my story! lol So, poor Peggy's memory has now been erased! Oh gosh!

Love the holiday they had in Alpine Valley. I love that world, but don't go there enough. Ah, and Peggy goes skiing for the first time. Nice! Maybe it's a good thing that the townie remembers, even though Peggy doesn't.

And a restaurant critic is going to find out about the "altered" chocolates. Or, will they?

And Coco and Daniel get into an epic vampire-werewolf battle. Actually, it looks like Daniel has won hands-down. However, Coco returns to the Chocolate Museum for another plan. Oh gosh! This can't be good.

@SoulGal7 Them being long definitely isn't a downside. I enjoy those posts a lot, they capture the magic of the season!

Looking back, bugs have added plotpoints and even lore to my simsworld almost as often as new packs have, I don't know if that's sad or funny. Like the "moon fury", that's from the day one werewolf GP bug that made the weres invisible, leaving only a crimson cloud that moved around.

Love how Elfie's friends are looking out for him, first Kiyoshi, then Cassandra and Jeb! Will he have a hard time leaving them behind? Maybe Santa needs someone who keeps the tabs on the foolish humans, allowing Elfie to visit now and then?
Also Jacob Volkov looking down on Elfie so sceptical in the second class, only to be on a mat in the front row in the next class, haha! Looks like he was convinced that this is fun.

Yes, one could go through the selling quickly via inventory sell, but then again, the same goes for the Sims 4 scenarios, they can get finished clickety-clickety-click too, but shine when getting tackled at a slower pace.
