RILEY'S FAMILY KNOWS BEST

Well after I found my home, I decided it was time to make the best of things by getting closer to Eriden. Oh yeah. That’s his name. Anyway, he obviously had strong feelings about my corner lot and I decided it could be a lot more fun if he stayed. He’s so serious all the time. I find it amusing.

I told him how I found this perfectly delightful bed while I was walking home the previous night. And he all but blew a gasket. He still insisted, because of some silly paperwork, that this was his land. I just tuned him out and told him how the bed was just floating along on the stream, practically screaming out at me. “Riley, take me home!” How could I resist? It was fate, I told him. Hmmm speaking of fate, I started thinking that, maybe, Eridan was part of my destiny, too.

I decided to distract him from more lawyer-talk by setting up some easels, that I had found by a dumpster, in the yard. He quickly grabbed a brush and began painting away. I’m was sure his finished canvas would give me more insight into his true feelings. But once I realized what he was painting, I could hardly believe my eyes. He was obviously painting a picture of us! Together!
Hmm, I guess he ran out of red paint, because it looked like he was painting me as a blonde. Oh well, maybe he’s color blind or something. The important thing is that he’s obviously trying to send me a sign! And I knew right then and there, that he was the man for me. Now I just had to make it happen.
Now, My mama always said the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and Daddy always said that there’s nothing more satisfying than a hamburger. So I decided to follow the sage advice of my parents, possibly for the first time ever, and get ta cookin’.

That very same night, I just happened to accidentally, on purpose, run into Eridan at the park and offered him a “burger” that I had just grilled. Ok, so it wasn’t actually beef, but it kinda looked like it could be beef. Honestly, I not sure what the meat was, I found it in a cooler that someone had left behind. Anyway once the flies were chased away, it seemed perfectly fine to use it. So I did.
And it seems like my parents were right! Eridan wolfed down that “burger” so fast that I practically heard church bells ringing. He did turn a little green after he finished eating though, and then he rushed home. I bet he was in a hurry so he could call his family and tell them all about me!

The next morning I remembered my older sister’s motto: “If you want to catch a man, ignore him.” Which meant I obviously had to accidentally, on purpose, bump into him again, so I could ignore him. He was easy to track down at the park in Oasis Springs.

So I walked right over and set next to him at the picnic table and then I pretended like he wasn’t even there. I just sat there staring straight ahead listening to him breath. When he started to fidget, I got up and

challenged some random girl to a game of chess. I lost pretty badly, but I had a different strategy to play out in my head that didn’t involve pawns and rooks. I did notice that Eridan went into the Rec Building right after I left him and kept an eye out for him to reappear. It wasn’t long before he was making his way to another picnic table. So I left my king wide open and quickly ended the game claiming I was hungry.

I very casually made sure to sit at Eridan’s table, while he ate a very dismal looking burger (mine looked so much better the night before), but I didn’t talk to him. He kept sneaking glances at me, but I directed my focus on what’s-her-face across the table. It didn’t take long before Eridan was paying more attention to our end of the table than on the food in front of him. And that’s when I chose to leave.
Turns out big sis was right, he immediately got up and asked if I felt ok, pointing out that I hadn’t eaten. It was all I could do to hide my excitement and not jump up and down, instead I just smiled at him and left.
It shouldn’t be long now!
