Every good story needs a villain, but Mark Hulme? Oh no; let some other poor fool take that role.
That was the approach Mark took to business, especially when he was discovered cutting corners. Marketing a miracle fitness supplement, ‘Hulmongous’, he’d cleverly saved money by skipping all the necessary safety checks. Unfortunately, people have weak constitutions, and when they began getting severely ill from using his product, the media swarmed. It was a good thing that his business partner was there to take the fall damage, after Mark had framed him for negligence.
Despite narrowly escaping a criminal conviction, Mark’s business has been in a rut ever since; the public seem off put by the possibly dangerous side-effects of his supplement.
A royal affiliation is exactly what he needs to boost public opinion; or in fact, secure an early retirement. Love can’t be much different than business, and he’s about to schmooze his way into a national promotion.

Yo, Mark, I got some bad news. Prince Philip just retired from attending Royal Duties at the age of 96. The year prior he attended 200 engagements. :D (I feel like this could potentially be a great story line for Mark, finding out Royal life isn't what he expected at all).
