Backstory: Fiona Shipman is the 2nd eldest of a group of 6 children of the second set of her father's . Her older full sister has "issues" so that for most of her life she was the one looking after the other 4 siblings. Both her Mom and her father died when she was only was 12 but even before then she had to look after the siblings and occasionally her niece/nephews from her half-siblings not that she gets anything from her half-siblings anyway. So when she heard of the Selection she knew this was the chance of improvement of her family's life besides just singing and doing music. And if she doesn't win it at least means she might be able to be a teacher or a doctor as a 3.
