The Super Sim Challenge: Kenneth Valerius [29.03.18]

The Super Sim Challenge
I’ve been watching a good amount of Sim videos lately, and one that I’ve wanted to do is the Super Sim Challenge, a challenge that I was first introduced to under a different name years ago: the Ultimate Sim Challenge. Throughout the series that I’ve skimmed and watched, I’ve noticed that it must be a rule to start with a young adult sim. I am omitting this rule because I feel that to have a truly super sim the toddler, child, and character traits are also important for completion. This exclusion of the young adult rule is why I am starting out with a simple nuclear family: the strict but hard working Mathis Valerius, the beautiful Jacqueline Valerius née Allaire, and their son, the future super sim, Kenneth Valerius.

The Goals of the Challenge
Ultimately, it is to complete every aspiration, get to the highest level in all careers, have all skills maxed, collect all collectibles, and buy one of everything from the rewards store. However, these steps of the challenge only really start at the young adult stage. As a toddler, child, and teen, there are other things to worry about:

Toddler: Max out all five skills before aging up.

Child: Max out all four skills before aging up, complete the four aspirations, and have an A in school.

Teen: Reach the top of each teen career (3), make sure that all five character value gauges are maxed (negative or positive doesn’t matter), and have an A in school.

Likely by the time the super sim is ready to become a young adult, the parents are dead with the teen having been left alone in the house to fend for himself. When young adulthood is reached, the super sim is to move out of their home. The only things that are allowed to be taken are the things the super sim created—paintings, books, sculptures—and any collectibles including harvestables gathered by the super sim (not the actual plant, only the harvestable). Also, grabbing the parents’ graves is a good idea. No bulldozing of the lot or selling furniture, but whatever money is in the reserve is okay to keep and use for the new place.

  • Background Story
Mathis grew up in a home where his single mother had to work to the bone to be able to afford to keep the roof over their heads and be able to put food on the table. His mother would come home exhausted every day, especially on the days where she worked two jobs. Because of his mother’s misfortune, he vowed to work hard in school and become someone of worth.

Logic and science were his forte, and he worked with that by getting an internship in the science career under a formidable but absolutely brilliant scientist who was working on something extraordinary. It was a while before his mentor told him what he was actually working on behind closed doors, but when he did Mathis was enthralled with his mentor’s lifework, this crazy scheme he has procured, and excitedly decided to work diligently with him. Unfortunately, his mentor was old and it clearly showed in his movements and speech—both of them knew he wasn’t going to be on this earth for much longer.

One day, Mathis’s mentor looked to the hard working young man and asked him, no pleaded with him to continue with his research, to create what he couldn’t. Of course, Mathis told his dying mentor he would because this was now just as important to him as it was to his mentor. Barely a year passed before the mentor’s soul was taken by the reaper. He was found by Mathis the following morning collapsed on top of his own research papers.

Years passed, and Mathis continued as he said he would. He worked, researched, and experimented day-in and day-out. Yet, even when he felt he was getting closer to a breakthrough, the road seemed to lead to nothing. Mathis was angry and frustrated that all his and his mentor’s work seemed to be for naught. He was tired, overexerted, and angry—he needed a break from it all. This is how he met the beautiful Jacqueline Allaire.

Mathis went to a local lounge, a quiet but lively place to get a drink and maybe even talk to a few people. What he didn’t expect was to be drawn into to music being sung by a beauty. Her voice was soft, silvery, as it resonated around the lounge. Mathis couldn’t keep his eyes off her and had an irresistible urge to speak to her, to get to know this siren.

After the show, Mathis snuck into the back, making sure not to be caught by any roaming figures until he reached a door with an alluring name: Allaire. He rapped on the door, nervous but determined. Seconds passed before the beauty looked up at him with curiosity, she knew that he wasn’t a part of the staff. Nerves kicked in high. He was a scientist, not a charismatic bachelor; even so, he tried to speak. Stumbling slightly he expressed how beautiful she is, how enthralling her voice is, how he couldn’t keep his eyes off her. Before Jacqueline could say anything, a guard spotted him. He struggled against the brute, asking Jacqueline if he could see her again. “Please do,” was her words before he was kicked out of the closing establishment. He was in love.

He continued to visit the lounge, to listen to her sing, to see her sway slightly to the accompanied instruments. Every time he visited the lounge where she worked, he would continuously sneak back to see her. That was until she wanted to see him somewhere new. With that, Mathis asked her if he could take her on a date, which led to another, and another.

After a many dates and relaxing night outs, all now ending in feverish kisses and tempting touches, they got even closer with each other.

Time passed before Mathis got the courage to take their relationship one-step further. He continued to do his research, but at a slower pace in order for him to have time for his beautiful lady. With his discoveries, he was able to afford a diamond ring worthy of Jacqueline. She was in tears when she saw Mathis get on one knee in front of her chair in the restaurant. Words could not come to her, thus she only nodded giving him her hand to slip on the ring. As he stood up, Jacqueline stood from her chair to kiss him passionately to express her joy. They were both ecstatic.

They decided to have their wedding at Jacqueline’s favorite place: the beach when the sun is setting. The ceremony was beautiful with the waves crashing behind them, the sky a beautiful hue of pink and purple, and their friends and family watching as they tied their lives together. Mathis’s mother, getting up there but still alive, wished them well as he bent down to let her kiss the top of his head. Jacqueline’s father gruffly wished them happiness with her mother nodding in agreement.

Time passed as they settled in with each other. Jacqueline continued with getting higher in her career, her wish to sing upon a stage with thousands of people listening. Mathis got back into his research feeling rejuvenated with the new happiness in his life.

One night in bed, Jacqueline turned to him and asked, “What do you say to having a child?” The question surprised Mathis, and truthfully, he never gave it a thought. “Is that your way of telling me that you want one?” She stayed quiet as Mathis waited patiently for an answer. “I think so. I think I want to start a family with you.” She moved so she was on top of Mathis and placed her arms on either side of him asking again, “Would you like to have a family with me?” Mathis stared up at Jacqueline, her long black hair tickling the side of his face as he pondered. He has no idea if he’d like to have a child. He didn’t even know if he’d be a good father what with his never being there having left before he was even born. Could he be a father? Jacqueline seems to think so. He slides his hands up her arms, down the sides of her bare chest, stopping at her waist before stating, “As long as you’re here, I think we could raise a family together.” A smile lit up her face and she bent down for a kiss.

Jacqueline’s hormones ran rapid while she was pregnant making her emotions seem unstable. Sometimes Mathis would come home to a crying wife and other times he’d come home to her angrier than a raging elephant. Sometimes she was insanely happy, and other times she wanted him to take her immediately. He tried his best to comfort her, just let her have her space, or to do as she asked. Oddly enough, he also felt unstable with his emotions. It was as if her change in hormones was changing his as well. Even though it was a bumpy ride, they rode it out together.

Once the child was born, Mathis decided that the best option would be to start doing his research at home. They had an unused basement only with a few boxes in there that he could use. This way, he could be even closer with his wife and new child. Jacqueline was absolutely thrilled to hear this when he proposed the idea to her. She, however, would still be leaving a few times a week to do her own job, but Mathis knew she had a dream she wished to fulfill and he would hate to stop her. Plus, he could do his research at home while she couldn't become a star staying here.

Their son, Kenneth Valerius, was now a curious toddler. Mathis wouldn’t tell Jacqueline, but for some reason to him their son seemed off, like he didn’t seem like other children even as just an infant and Mathis didn’t know why. He wasn't frightened of his child, but he knew there was something not right with the boy. Maybe he was made for something bigger than Mathis understood.

With smiles and laughter, Kenneth grew up healthy and cared for. Mathis knew that having a toddler running around was going to be a tiring and difficult experience; yet, his son seemed more independent than what he believed children to be. It was as if his child had set out a task and was working hard to fulfill the requirements needed in order to succeed.

At first, Kenneth seemed to be really into his building blocks, playing with them constantly until he felt he needed either Mathis or Bridgette. However, it wasn’t long before he abandoned his blocks instead to run around the house, many times throwing off his clothes in the process. Mathis had to make sure that he kept the front or back doors closed, just so his little streaker wouldn’t expose himself to the neighbors and passersby.

It wasn’t long before Kenneth seemed to tire of his running for a more social approach. At that point, Kenneth seemed inseparable from his parents. Always wanting attention, to babble, or even just talk about random things once he got used to speaking. He’d ask questions about objects and seemed to want to learn about everything around him. It warmed Mathis’s inquisitive heart and he explained what things where to his son happily. Truthfully, Kenneth was too curious for his own good and Mathis couldn’t explain everything; it didn’t help that some of his questions were incomprehensible making it so Mathis didn’t even know what his child was asking to begin with. However, like with his previous activities, Kenneth did stop his persistent questioning for other things. Mathis did miss it, slightly.

Kenneth stopped his outgoing social interactions in order to ask his parent to read to him. He would carry a book or two around the house, and if he saw either Mathis or Bridgette, he’d hold up a book and utter a please. Even if they had to read the same book many times to him, there was no way they would resist his little plea.

He was a good baby, perfect even. Mathis should be proud, and he is, but he is also for some reason concerned. His son was excessively organized, too efficient, as if he was trying to achieve an overall goal. Even with his unease, Mathis loves his odd son.

A/N: From what I’ve gathered, the best way to get up all the skills is first to start with the hardest skill, which in my opinion is thinking. The blocks are perfect for this.
    Best Trait: Inquisitive

While this skill is being leveled up, you’re toddler will want to go to the bathroom soon; so, once that bar almost reaches halfway down it is potty training time. Continue watching that bar until the next level and then the toddler can pee alone. Note that once level 3, there is no reason to worry about the little guy soiling himself, so waiting till the last second is okay then. Also, when putting the kid to bed, always read to bed.
    Best Trait: Independent

Movement should be focused on next. It’s an easy skill; it should one take one day to max. All you have to go is have him continuously strip and wander. Stripping will give the toddler the energized moodlet, which boosts movement.
    Best Trait: Wild

Next would be speech. Now, I recently discovered that babbling to the big stuffed bear is actually more effective to boosting speech. However, I haven’t seen this in practice, so I suggest just speaking with anyone. Just go at it. It is one of the easier skills.
    Best Trait: Charmer

Lastly is Imagination. Reading is the best way to level up this skill. However, before spamming it, give the kid a bubble bath to put him in a playful mood in order to boost the skill.
    Best Trait: Silly

Overall, staying on a strict leveling up system is the only way to get the top-notch toddler trait in a normal lifespan. I wasn’t completely on top of things, so it was extra difficult where I rushed at the end.
