There should CONSEQUENCES for being bored

The 'bored' moodlet doesn't seem to really do anything? Like, it doesn't actually seem to affect how the sim acts or what they can do. Maybe they're a little less successful at social interactions, but it's barely noticeable. I think when bored sims should refuse/be unable to do certain activities, like homework or housework or other 'boring' things, and they should gain skills more slowly, something like that, so there's a real motivation to getting your sim un-bored.

  • Agreed! Dazed is also a confusing emotion to me. Besides making a sim look disoriented, it doesn't seem to have much effect.
  • I think if you work on electronics (repair/upgrade) when Dazed your Sim has a higher chance of death from electrocution.

I agree about Bored needing a bit more impact -- if a Sim is in a boring conversation they should start to nod off, maybe even fall asleep briefly.
  • being bored to death would be rather amusing. no one literally dies from boredom, so why not in the sims instead?

    Would love it!
  • If Sims are watching a movie that's boring to them, they'll fall asleep. Also, I had a Sim who got bored researching the spy database and started to sigh, moan, groan, roll her eyes and randomly peck at the keyboard with one finger. lol It was hilarious! Those are the kind of bored associated with an action though.

I'm guessing y'all are talking about when they get bored for no reason at all. In that case, I agree, they do need some kind of action to go along with it. Like maybe grab a book, still bored? Throw it down or across the room in disgust. Click on the TV and start flipping through channels for something to watch? Maybe they could sit there slumped on the couch, clicker pointed at the TV and mumbling something to resemble "Seen it, Boring, Seen it, dumb, Seen it, VERY dumb..." Then throw the clicker down and take a nap or something.

Perhaps if you have Seasons, they go outside and scream at the sky that they're bored and get hit by a bolt of lightening from a clear blue sky. The infamous "bolt from the blue" I'm sure you've all heard about. That'll teach them to be bored! o.O hehe Just some fun ideas... :)
  • Fwiw, when they're bored, they get some dialog options that are only available to bored sims.

But I too would love to be able to have sims die of boredom; I was surprised that wasn't one of the possible emotional-deaths from the start.

Of course, they might overdo it...

But my sims are seldom bored.

Low fun need should result in boredom rather than being tense. Boredom could increase the tense mood from a stressful workday or bad commute.
  • I feel like if they remain bored for a certain amount of time that their emotion should have a chance at changing to annoyed/angry. I know that when I'm bored for a long time I get kinda pissy lol

I had a sim that stated they were bored and they stopped doing things I told them to do until I clicked something they didn't find boring. So it does do something but Sims with certain traits often will not keep doing things that bore them - especially if they are already bored.

Yet I tell them to do something they don't find boring and they hop right to it. LOL.
  • @Writin_Reg, your story reminds me: when we kids complained of being bored, our mother said, "Great, then I'll put you to work!" and she'd give us chores to do. Let me tell you, we quickly figured out something we'd rather be doing than more chores!

I used that same technique in my own childrearing. Worked great!

Y'know, it still works for me. On the rare occasions when I feel bored, I just do chores. Either I figure out something I'd enjoy doing, or I get some needed tasks finished. Win either way!

Nobody in my family stays bored.

Bit odd, that the sims work the opposite way. I reckon the programmers' parents didn't know my Mom's little trick.
