@Daravi
I've read a good part of your challenge now :)
And I can understand your Sims took the chance to emigrate...
Yes, I also noticed the Voldemort effect. I can absolutely understand why certain words are blocked on the forums or the gallery, but it makes talking about history a challenge. And I think the Batuu banners were quite fitting to be honest.
There's an interesting cultural difference: It seems internationally words about this time are considered more problematic and imagery doesn't seem to be, whereas in Germany I'd say it's the other way round. If Batuu would have been a set of physical toys it probably wouldn't have been allowed to hit the shelves here with these banners...
I can imagine that creating GDR homes doesn't work that well. But yes, the German division is definitely something important, it's just harder to create anything rulelike for it I guess.
@JAL
That's interesting, I would have thought you were American, since you have so much background knowledge :) But you being a history teacher fits too :)
I would love to read another decades challenge by you! And if you ever want to share your adaption of the rules I would be happy to read it. I can understand the part about giving things more thought than what would be healthy, lol. I don't have anything written up (yet), but my thoughts and research in the last days are definitely not healthy anymore...
And I agree, that not mentioning the atrocities of war or racism at all would be the worst choice.
@SnowBnuuy
That's right, people probably know what to expect when reading a Decades Challenge here on the forums.
Reading your parts about the gloomy story and uncomfortable history made me notice that I also shy away from the opposite. Like having a love story in Germany's 1930ies or showing a happy childhood in a region that does no longer belong to Germany after WW2 (I know these worries don't make sense and that people have been falling in love at all times).
Haha, I'm the same with researching stuff I see on shows :) The Crown was the "worst", I probably spent more time reading about history than watching the series, lol.
I'm far away from actually starting a Decades Challenge, but I just ordered the book that inspired me recently. It's a kids/youth book that I read as a child and that impressed me a lot. It's a pity I don't own it anymore but I found a used version online, so I'm curious to see if I still like it :)
