@flauschtrud Being a history teacher does bring you some benefits when doing a decades challenge, definitely, but I've also done a lot of research into not just American conditions, but Louisiana conditions. Like when Abigail had her miscarriage and the popup told me to send her to the doctors - then I needed to find out if that was feasible in Louisiana at the time. Turned out they had excellent maternal care for its time and has one of the oldest hospitals in the US with a maternity ward. That was something I had no clue about before this. I also didn't know that the Spanish flu hit Louisiana, and especially New Orleans, so much harder than many other places because the newspapers downplayed the flu when it first hit, or that Los Angeles had some of the toughest restrictions on entertainment in the country at the same time and fared better than most places. Interestingly enough, most of the accidental deaths from the game during the flu were in Willow Creek or Newcrest.
I did consider posting an European adapted set of the rules at one time, but figured no one would be interested, but I could probably be persuaded to do it, at least the set up, though I'd have to do some more research into inheritance rules in Europe as I wasn't done with that part yet. The main difference is that I pay a lot more attention to class than the original challenge does. Even in US gameplay they should pay more attention to that but in a European setting with landed gentry and nobility coming into play there would be a lot of more rigid rules of what you can and can't do depending on your class, and in general a lot less social mobility in the early parts of the challenge. I'm actually quite happy that with For Rent you can now play a landowner, or rent your farm land rather than owning it. It makes European historic gameplay more realistic, especially if you want to go for earlier periods.
For the Munch-family I'd make them farmers who owns a pub, but I would have to find a more historically accurate chef station. I've found one but its been taken down for some reason. But then again, I tend to play one save at the time, so until I'm done with the Whittakers I'm not likely to start something new.
@SnowBnuuy that makes perfect sense. :)
@Daravi There are points? I must have missed that part. But then I've never followed the rules anyway, since very often they are historically inaccurate. I mostly just saw it as an inspiration for delving into history. I also like your reasoning and thoughts on the history and keeping it accurate. I don't think its entirely possible to keep things 100% accurate, and the game certainly makes it harder with people bringing up their phones or playing on their computers in public places all the time, but I figure I go as close as I can realistically go, and ignore the things I cannot change.
