@flauschtrud Women in the US rarely had access to the same universities as men, but there were women universities, for instance Radcliffe was started in 1879 (and called the Harvard annex). Only very few allowed them to study together. In my writing I haven't really mentioned this, but made separate dorms for women and men as a symbol of it.
