People really complained about stories? this is a first hearing this wow I liked the stories like you said it made the Sims personal I mean the devs are trying to make the Sims more personal with feelings and emotions well why not have a back story of some sort the Sims 2 was a good game full of stories and such and townies should have lives being married and have kids and a job.
