Trust Funds for Children

One thing that's annoyed me in most Sims games is that when a sim finally ages into a young adult and moves out (no matter the family funds) they always start out with little cash. Especially in Sims 4 when you can't directly move them into a new lot so have limited options to which lots they can move to, as their funds are only around $20,000. A neat idea would be to have the parents start a trust fund for each child and every sim week money is transferred into their trust funds so that by the time they move out they will have a considerable amount of money. Obviously this is completely optional and you can also choose the amount that is transferred each week (example, $100, $500, $1000) Just an idea as it can sometimes be unrealistic for a recently aged young adult sim who comes from a wealthy family with a mansion to move into a small 1 bedroom house. Obviously cheats and what not can solve this but just thought it would add to the whole family experience, something that's severely lacking in the Sims 4. Your thoughts?

OMG yes saving up for college would be awesome also the kid can work on getting a scholarship. Either the teen can use it on college or waste it up.

It would make a good addition if/when we get University. It would also make sense now that we can give money gifts with Seasons; a parent could give their teen money and it would go into the teen's savings account along with any money they earn from either part time jobs or hobbies like programming or painting. Then when the teen ages up to YA, they can use it for University or if they're not going they can have it as starting out funds to get a better place or to invest in things they need (like a computer if they're a programmer or writer, or an easel if they're a painter, etc.).

Yup that is a grand idea.
  • So I had to come up with a solution because my Teen Micah was almost ready to age into young adulthood and once he did I wanted to move in his YA girlfriend get them married and then move them out into their own home while still having my main family to play (his parents and siblings). But he is pretty skilled in most things and because the girlfriend was a NPC from the neighborhood she wouldn’t have the same rewards he did and would need nicer things to raise her needs quicker until she does get the rewards. So when I was ready to move out the Bride and Groom I went into my fridge and took out most of my fruits and veggies (especially the magnificent ones) and put them in his inventory and I also had him put some of his moms paintings (she’s a Gardner/painter/SAHM) in his inventory and some of the more rare fishes we had and I also put other things in the wife’s inventory (2 copies of each book) because my main family started very poor and it is very rich now so I bought books for them just to sell for a bigger house. I know this approach is harder and takes more time but it does work everything stays in your sims inventory when you move them. I’d say the worst part is that in the Sims 4 you can’t use the phone or computer to move out one or two sims you have to manage worlds and separate them from the rest of the family.
  • I'll love for all of our sims to have their own personal funds rather than just the family funds. Could offer a lot of replay value.
    - Children and teens start with no money.
    - Family members or strangers can choose to either give money, beg for money, ask for money, threaten to take away the child's allowances.
    - Banking system with saving accounts (which is kinda what we have now with the vault) but as a community lot that we can visit.
  • In a previous version of Sims I would buy expensive cars for my newly grown kid sims so they could sell them for starter cash when they'd move out. Now I buy a bunch of those $15,000 violins. The paintings and expensive veggies ideas sound good too. A nice easy feature that would work fine from EA's end would simply be to let you type in an amount you'd like to send with your kids when you go to move them out. Easy peasy. :)
