University Life -> Get Smart

Ignoring my bad attempt at a title, I know a lot of the community is anticipating and is excited for a University EP. Though I also know that the other half doesn't care either way or can really do without it, so I thought it would be cool to instead of just focus on university, how about a whole Education Expansion?

There would still be a bigger focus on university, but just to cater to those wouldn't just want college life in their game, opening the doors a little wider for different age groups.

Gameplay features:

  • Option to enroll toddlers into preschool/kindergarten to help raise their skills (depending on their traits, this could affect their emotions (ie, independent toddlers could gain happy moodlets). With the Parenthood GP, doing well/poorly in preschool can slightly affect the characteristic meters as a child.
  • New Education career, with branches that can go into Teacher (playable) and Department of Education.
  • Dropout option for high school/college.
  • High schoolers with good grades can be offered extra college courses that can benefit their future academics in Uni (and be a possible scholarship opportunity)
  • Grade and High schoolers have art and science fairs where they bring in projects they made at home (extra credit)!
  • High schoolers (and you!) can attend prom.
  • Instead of different colleges, there would be one, but you would be applying for a major; they'll have certain requirements to fulfill to be able to apply
  • A test and application system that can better your chances of getting into Uni-they wouldn't be mandatory, but can grant scholarships and better the chances of being accepted rather than just crossing your fingers your grades are good enough.
  • Earned degrees can benefit jobs that correlate with it, with higher average pay and faster promotion rates.
  • Living on or off campus; 'On Campus' can be a destination world in a small college town (dorms, sorority/frats, etc). Off campus, you can just stay where you live now.
  • College classes can be set up like jobs that offer a "Work from Home" option.
  • New party options, only available to hosts that are in college themselves, or part of greek life.

CAS:

  • Varsity jackets specific for high school and different colleges.
  • General college apparel such as hats and sweaters.
  • An overall 90s themed outfit selection
  • New aspirations: Smart Cookie (doing exceptionally well in all academics, earning more than one degree), A Good Apple (corresponds with teacher career), Dropout Dream (not earning a degree, but becoming successful anyways)
  • New traits: Distracted (just cant ever seem to pay attention at school or work...building relationships with other sims is difficult too, your sim is just always off in their own world), Studious (your sim is just naturally good at logic and academic based things, though can become frustrated with creative activities)

Build Mode:

  • Kegs (you know)
  • footballs, soccer balls, mini golf...just small sport items to add a little more pass time when class is over! (and different ways to gain athletics!)
  • I'm not really sure what else could be a good little thing to add (interaction wise)

Thoughts? Opinions and criticism, or any additions/subtractions? I know this is a lot already, but it's more of an idea board that's in the realm of "this would be a cool general direction" rather than "all of this has to be included or im quitting". Happy simming!

Unfortunately due to the uproar that came with My First Pet Stuff I can't see them doing a GP for an EP..... People were plum that they were basically selling extra stuff for an Expansion.... If they do it again it will just cause more upset.

I completely agree @StephRumney, if there was a University EP and a Get to School GP they would have to be completely standalone packs so as not to require the other to use the full functionality (unlike My First Pet Stuff).

I would really like both packs at some point, we’ve never been able to follow kids and teens to school and I think it could add a lot of gameplay value if it’s done right.

    More fraternities and sororities

only if there is the option to toggle them off completely.

Events like homecoming and graduation should be similar to the festivals that occur in San Myshuno.

No. these things need to be completely player controlled. No "homecoming", only a school dance that you can name to whatever the heck you want. If you want it to be a prom, you can call it that, if you want it to be a homecoming, you can call it that. Personally, I'd be calling it a Formal, or maybe a Blue Light Disco. The developers need to keep in mind that we don't all live in the same part of the world, and don't all have exactly the same events. They need to make the game have more options, there need to be more things that are in the control of the player.
The school dance also should have a dress code, that we the player sets, and a theme (or not), music style, food (or not). Let us control out own sim fantasy.
Same goes for graduation. Not everyone has one. For many, you don't have a formal graduation until you complete uni. Like the school dance, it needs to be player controlled, with plenty of variable options, including the option to switch it off.

Legacy students- If your parents went to a specific university you can easy admission/ a scholarship to that university. If your child doesn't attend the university that you attend, you can get a negative moodlet.
I find that to be a bizarre concept.

Different locations- The community college should be based in the home city, so you can live at home and still work whilst doing evening classes. Where as the other universities should be in a separate world where you have to travel to. This would allow for more in depth campus design.

Nah, all unis should be a place your sims can easily commute to. In my part of the world, all major cities have multiple universities, and most minor ones have at least one campus, usually a branch of the state university. Every part of the world is different, and the game should reflect that, to give each of us more realism.

As well as the greek houses having different personalities so should the halls.
What are 'halls'? Are they corridors on campus?

In the future if there is a there is a holiday EP, you should be able to go on Spring Break.
What about summer, autumn and winter breaks too? Don't your poor students have four terms, and therefore four breaks?

You should be able to choose whether once you graduate if you; moved back with your parents, by yourself or with friends with university.
You should have those options for uni too!
I know a lot of people who started uni while still living at home, I know many who graduated while living at home, I know others who lived in overcrowded share houses, and others who shared a flat with their partner.

Don't forget Beer Brewing and Slacklining skill sets, along with "Studious" and "Dude-ious" traits...

    HA!
Brewing was a part of year 12 chemistry when I was at school! It's a life skill!

*bookmarked* Love these ideas but me personally I'd also love the chance to finally be able to create my own functional schools/University and use like the club feature to set up staff and cliques. I'd also like a community college or at the least online classes.

Yes online classes. Stay at home moms getting their Real Estate license. Learning to knit or garden at the learning annex. Etc

You don't know how bad I want a mini fridge. Like for the toddler's room. Especially in my larger houses. The cooler doesn't work as well, and the toddlers keep tryna go downstairs even when there's a high chair in their room. ?

What about being smart enough to develop your own skills, or to add on to the already maxed out ones too?
