What should I build here?

I've been working on my first apartment block and I don't really know what to put on the empty space outside it. It's supposed to be from the 1920s, and it's in Del Sol Valley. The house consist mostly of roomy one bedroom apartments. Any ideas of how to make this area lively and fit into the town setting?

    Thank you for all the great suggestions. Had this been a modern build I would likely have gone with those things, but as this is 1920s LA I decided to go a bit more along the reading suggestion. Here is the result:

    yeah have basketball court in that neighborhood too although mine is on inner circle lot

    i think grunge pool could work too with the fence around it like those ones in american movies kids always break into

    or some fake cars I guess but thats not very fun since theres no gameplay to it :/

    You could place a couple of outdoor benches for those who may like to sit and read.
