28 years of life, over 25 years as a devoted player, and I give up.

Today I opened my browser with the intention of warning that many of us, loyal The Sims players for more than two decades, are tired of being treated like fools. I became an architect because of my history with The Sims. My older sister and I live in different countries, and for years our shared passion for the game kept us connected. The Sims has always been one of our favorite investments, the source of countless funny conversations, especially because she became a civil engineer and I became an architect thanks to our love for the game.

Today, we are done. There is simply no way to justify paying an absurd subscription fee just to keep the game updated. I have been battling depression for the last three years, and during that time I stepped away from the game for a few months. Now that I decided to come back, I realized I would need to spend more than 1000 reais just to update it again. That is not just disrespectful, it is insanity. It assumes we are crazy enough to keep fueling this scheme.

Do not forget: it is us, the millennials and late 90s Gen Z, who still have the means to spend this kind of money on a game. But we are also the generation that hates being taken for fools. And EA, with a pot of gold sitting in one of the most loyal communities in gaming history, you are consciously testing our limits, knowing exactly what this will mean for the future of the franchise. This is shooting yourselves in the foot, something no other company would dare to do.

I truly hope you learn from this mistake before the numbers themselves prove us right. But here is my message on this forum: EA, if while we treat you with flowers and chocolates you keep delivering us this, then may competition and capitalism show you exactly what we are capable of doing, unfortunately for you.

  • Uh....Yeah, if you don't buy games for years, and then more of them come out, and you decide to buy all of them in one go, it's gonna feel like a big expense. Buy one pack a month and eventually you'll catch up. You can't really indulge in all the packs at once anyway. Buying multiple at a time is ill-advised.

Also isn't 1000 reais like 250 dollars? You're not even that far behind. Especially not on an Architect's salary, tbh lol

This game has exponentially more content than the previous games you loved, you don't need all of it to have a similar experience. The older ones are also not only still available but were recently re-released. There's nothing stopping you from enjoying the game, I think...

beachandrats you don't have to purchase the new content to be up to date with the game. Updates are free and often contain free content too. In fact some examples this year would be the new free skin details from a few weeks ago and free content with the regular Events that are taking place. We've had quite a lot of free content this year so far and another Event is on the way in Autumn. I do have the full game but many players do not. You can play the game you have and still have a great experience or you can choose to add more DLC, whether it's a kit or a full expansion pack. If you do see a pack you're interested in you can make a considered purchase by checking out other players opinions in our General Discussion section where you'll find both positive and negative thoughts to help you decide. But you don't have to add anything in fact I know a few people who just play the free base game without any add ons at all and still enjoy doing that.

I'm adding a link to General Discussion, if you want to scroll through you'll see pack opinions and you'll also see players thinking about adding new packs and asking for recommendations. It's definitely not required to make further purchases though. I would like to add I do hope that you're feeling better now.

When I say update, I mean bringing myself up to date by having the full game.
