An Easier Way to Repair the Game on Steam

About a year ago, I moved to Steam where before I'd been using the EA app. For a while it was fine, but then I started running into weird bugs. As I normally did, using the EA app, I tried to repair my game - it'll be easy, I thought. Just use the "verify game files" option Steam gives you.

Unfortunately, as it turns out, "Verify game files" on Steam doesn't actually work to repair the game, it just checks to see if there's missing files. It doesn't identify corrupted files or files with missing data. And it only verifies the files for the base game and DLC that was purchased via Steam, meaning that if you have DLC purchased from the EA store you're out of luck.

Right now, every time I need to repair the game, I have to manually go into my game installation, delete folders, and then hit "verify game files" to re-download everything I deleted. Then I have to start the game to trigger the EA sub-app (applet? not sure what it's called) to open via Steam, wait five minutes for it to recognize I have missing DLC, and then individually click through forty plus different download buttons. It takes about two hours for what used to be a ten minute process.

I would really, really, appreciate an easier way to repair the game via Steam.

  • This is a strictly a Steam issue, you may need to go to their help forums about it. It only takes me less than an hour to uninstall and re-install 47 add ons just via the EA app. Steam talks to the EA app and then the EA app needs to talk to Steam, which is why it takes longer.

Unfortunately, because I bought most of my DLC on the EA app, I have to go through this very tedious manual download process for each one. I'm not sure if that's Steam's issue, or EA's issue. It's the instance of the EA app that activates via Steam, which has locked down/reduced features.

If I could queue it to redownload all of my missing stuff at once I could at least leave my PC and do something else during this time. I think that'd be as easy as adding an extra button?
